About Ottavia Bassetti
I am an Italian woman living in New York and from time to time I come back to Levanto / Dosso to find the special atmosphere of this magical country. Here is an atmosphere that I can't find anywhere else.
Why Ottavia Bassetti chose Levanto
I bought Casa Isoletta in Dosso , because the village is in the countryside ,but not too far from the beaches of Levanto and so I can enjoy the tranquility of the country, but by 15 minutes car I can swim and sunbathing. The proximity to the 5 Terre is another point in favour of this location: from Levanto by train , ferry or on foot I can reach the famous villages of Monterosso , Manarola , Vernazza , Corniglia and Riomaggiore . From Dosso you can easily reach by car, train and ferry the coastal towns of Portovenere , Lerici, Fiascherino and Tellaro in the Gulf of Poets of La Spezia , Portofino and Santa Margherita Ligure on the Riviera di Levante, and yet Varese Ligure in the green Val di Vara . You can also spend a day relaxing at the resort of Montecatini, explore the marble quarries of Carrara, or visit the Lunigiana with its 100 castles. The art cities of Pisa , Genoa , Lucca, Parma and Florence can be reached by car or train with one or two hour journey.

Nice view of surroundings
The property is located in a very quiet and quant village with charm and character. The property manager was helpful in checking us in and getting aquatinted with the place.
When reviewing honesty and accuracy are very important as people pay attention to the reviews and plan their trips and vacation around such. Therefore my open and frank assessment will be detailed within.
The view is spectacular, the house itself is three levels with privacy for two couples. However, there a few pointers worth noting. The beds are actually standard and lacking in pillows for a comfy nights sleep. There is a very strong mold odor that if you health health issues this is extremely problematic and is located in the washer room addict to the main bedroom. A pity as this could be fixed and attended to. furniture is simple and and patchy with no coffee table and side tables where out of hard cardboard. Such out of character what u would expect in a Italian home. Owners not Italian so that is probably why. Out of the four places we stayed on our travels this was the least in value. But, if u dont mind what I have described take your chance and enjoy each person to his own expectations.
Three stars because it was not as described in the description and other reviews simply omitted the actual conditions. I am sure owner will not like this but the truth is best especially since a huge amount of logistics, planning , cost, time and expectations are what is necessary for a memorable time. I will not comment if recommended or not that is up to you and I dont want to spoil this experience for anyone and I am not one to complain unless I see the points mentioned within.
A wonderful house in a gorgeous village!
We spent ten days in this fabulous house in Dosso, swimming in the sea, eating pizzas and licking ice creams. The house is cool and airy, with a beautiful balcony overlooking the valley and the sea. The beach in Levanto is a 15 minute drive down the mountain - perfect. Anna was very welcoming and helpful with all the practicalities of our stay, and told us about all the best places to go and things to do nearby. On her recommendation, we went to the local B and B across the street for evening glasses of wine and snacks with wonderful views. We loved our time in Dosso, and hope to come back soon.
Thank you for your wonderful revew! I'm really happy that you enjoyed your stay and that my tips were useful. It was very nice to have you in Casa Isoletta and you were perfect guests. I really hope that you'll be able to come again !
A Special Place
When my family and I walked down the path to this village it felt like we were entering a fairy tale. There is just nothing like it in the States. The houses share walls and there are narrow little paths to get to each one. The village was beyond quaint and special!
Once inside, the view was amazing from the balcony. Levanto was a short down the hill and was a great place to enjoy the shopping, eating, and magnificent ocean view. It was also our starting point for Cinque Terre.
Anna was very helpful in guiding us for our stay. She gave suggestions for navigating Cinque Terre and ideas for places to eat. She was very helpful and welcoming!
Overall, I highly recommend this apartment. We did not want to leave!
even if with a great delay I want to thank you very much for your appreciation! It will certainly be very useful for future bookings. You were wonderful guests and you left the house in a perfect way. Thank you very very much!
Amazing hidden gem
House was amazing set back in the hills from Levanto. The view was out of this world and we enjoyed our stay so much. House was so perfectly prepared, clean and had all the amenities you need!
Stephanie, her husband and their friends were perfect guests, nice and polite and kept the house in a very good way. A group of people that everybody will be happy to have in his house!
Quiet village, beautiful views
We so enjoyed our stay here. The village is so quiet and peaceful and feels very safe. The view from the upper balcony on the third floor is absolutely beautiful. Having a bedroom and bathroom on each of the lower floors provides privacy if you are travelling with another couple. This vacation rental is definitely not for someone who has mobility issues or is out of shape as the hill you have to walk up and down to get into the town is very steep and the condo is on three floors, but we didn’t mind it because it meant we didn’t feel guilty indulging in great food and drink everyday. The village doesn’t allow cars which adds to its charm and peacefulness. I loved that about it. But they need to look into expanding the parking lot at the top of the hill as it was full every night. We parked on the shoulder of the road and didn’t have any issues though. Some of the other reviews mentioned concern about Bruna coming in everyday to water the flowers but it looks like they installed an automated watering system now. She was next door if we needed anything but never disturbed us at all. And Anna was quick to respond in fluent English to any questions or issues we had. The photos don’t do this place justice, the stone walls, wooden beams, hand painted tiles and beautiful views were all part of the appeal. We would definitely stay here again if we go back to this area.
Beautiful, immaculate house with great view of the hills and the Mediterranean.
This house was our best experience of a two week trip to Italy. It is almost impossible to stand or sit anywhere in the house and not see a beautiful view. It is very spacious, and the patio is large enough to accommodate dining outside and still have a sitting area overlooking the wonderful landscape. It is clean and furnished with everything you would need for a home away from home. It is part of a small, charming village. I couldn’t say enough nice things about this house.
thank you very much for your wonderful appreciation! I'm really glad that you enjoied your stay in Dosso at Casa Isoletta!! You were very nice and easy hosts and in my turn I greatly appreciated the kindness and friendliness of your nice group that I recommend to all owners.
Dosso is located 6 Km from the exit "Carrodano" on the highway Genova-Livorno. Levanto can be reached by train (line Torino/Milano - Genova – Roma) and the nearest airports are Genova and Pisa. Levanto is connected to Dosso by bus or taxi (to be booked in advance).
There are many beautiful walks round Dosso, we suggest the dipped in the green walk Dosso-Foce di Dosso-Bardellone-Dosso with a gourmet stop at the Bardellone farm restaurant at a quite good price. At Lavaggiorosso (20 minutes walk – 5 minutes drive ) try the trattoria “Da Zita” for a lunch or a dinner “home made”. Dosso is an ideal place for jogging and mountainbiking. At Levanto there are many coffees, bar, pizzerie and restaurants of high level. Local specialties are rice pie, “pesto”, fried bread and above all gattafin ( big fried ravioli filled with vegetables ). Here in summer there are special events like classic music concerts, antique and handicraft markets, village feasts with stalls, fires of artifice (25 July) and religious procession (16 August), tennis tournaments, ecc. Levanto is also very much appreciated by people keen of surf and windsurf. Not far from Dosso there are three golf courses: Rapallo Golf Club – about 50 km far (44 km in highway) – 18 holes; Forte dei Marmi – about 68 km far (60 km in highway) – 18 holes; Lerici – about 50 km far (35 km in highway) – 9 holes We’ll be very happy to help you in organizing your stay !
