About Ryan McCarthy
I 'm an older lady, retired from the City of Toledo where I was the Registrar of Vital Statistics. I love to travel, garden, feed and watch the birds, read, and relax with friends with a glass of our great regional wine! I'm easy going, have a good sense of humor, and enjoy people! I am so fortunate to have repeat renters and look forward to seeing them again! Right now I'm dogless for the first time in my life. Your dogs are welcome to vacation with you! Since I don't have one of my own right now, they are even more welcome!! I've explored all the little cities around here but never tire of returning. I especially like the state parks and beaches, the festivals, the winetasting, the trendy shopping as well as some great re-sale shops...not to mention all the art galleries and antique stores! I have four grandchildren who have vacationed almost 24 years up here and who still love to come spend time on the beautiful lake.
Ryan McCarthy purchased this House in 1995
Why Ryan McCarthy chose Traverse City
My family always vacationed in and around this area when I was a kid in the 50's. I love the area because it's in the country and I never grow tired of seeing the rolling hills and changing scenery. I'm not here all the time, but sure wish I could be. It's away from the noise of the city. I personally don't like staying in motels when I'm in an area like this. There is generally a breeze from the lake which discourages mosquitos; we may have other bugs, but seldom any mosquitos! I recently experienced mosquitos in the UP and believe me, those babies are vicious!
What makes this House unique
My property is almost 1 acre in size. The cottage is about 200 feet from the road and down a hill. There is a small sandy beach with 3 steps downs to the water. Small children can handle the steps, but babies should not be left alone on the beach as I'm sure everyone realizes. The water is shallow enough at the foot of the steps for them, but I suggest water shoes. Since we're on the east side of the lake, we get to enjoy gorgeous sunsets. Occasionally we're fortunate enough to be able to view the Northern Lights if one can stay awake late enough! In late July and early August, I really try to watch for them and will wake you (if you wish) if I see them.

Relaxing, cozy retreat
Our family loved every minute of our time at this property. The owner is extremely responsive and kind. The house is so peaceful and cozy, we truly had a wonderful stay It has everything you need for a week away and is a short drive to many attractions, but if you're like us, you'll be drawn to simply relax near the lake.
Great Place to Stay on Lake Leelanau
We had a great time at this cottage. The setting is wonderful, plenty of room in the yard for games and campfires, inside is very comfortable, has everything you need. Loved the pontoon boat and the lake, beautiful sunsets, and that this property allows pets. Our beagle had a great time as well. Close to Traverse City, Suttons Bay and Leland, all great shopping areas. We would like to stay again.
A fun a cottage right on Lake Leelanau!
Clean cottage on the water, fun pontoon boat to use, nice we could take our little dog, very personable owners. Thanks for renting your cottage to us. We had a great time!
Curt & Deb - glad you had a great time!
Beautiful area, nice cottage, dog and kid friendly! Used the boat everyday!
Thank you Joanna! Kid and Dog friendly are important to us having kids and dogs ourselves. I'm glad you got good use out of the boat!
Perfect place for the up North experience!
We have stayed in this cabin since I was a girl...I think what keeps us coming back (besides amazing owners) is the view...it is breathtaking!! This cottage is a perfect place to relax and rejuvinate...the cottage is well kept and clean. The pontoon is an amazing perk! I highly recommend this vacation spot =) You will NOT be disappointed
Thank you Amanda for such a positive review! We are glad to hear you enjoyed your stay and hope to have you again in the future!
This place has a major cockroach infestation. When we arrived the smell of bug spray was extremely strong and remained throughout the week. We killed about ten cockroaches the first night and a couple the second night. Thankfully we didn’t see them after that. It’s a shame because the place had some good qualities.
Ken - I am sorry you did not enjoy your stay but I can assure you our place DOES NOT have a cockroach problem. I was actually up the week after your stay and no issues whatsoever. I would have had zero issue handling any problems you may have had if you would of just called or notified me. Your lie about cockroaches and 1 star review were extremely unwarranted considering the effort we put into serving our customers.
Another side note - after I spoke with my cleaning turnover crew they said your family left the place in the worst condition they have seen in the 5+ years they have been cleaning for us.
