Being raised in this village just by the sea, it was with a big pleasure that life made us return to it, where we can relax from the day-to-day stress. Since traveling is one of our main hobbies, we think that is now the time to share some of our homeland with you.
John and Angela purchased this House in 1888

This property is in the family possession by some generations. We just gave it a nice restoration, to bring it up to modern days needs.
What makes this House unique
Being a typical portuguese village house, we wanted to keep that in mind when the restorations works were carried out. We decided to maintain the core character of its stone walls and roof woodwork, who work together with a touch of modernity, resulting in a pleasant and cozy house.

Lovely cottage, really well kitted out, a home away from home
Our hosts were delightful. Extremely easy to contact, very knowledgeable and only too happy to offer advice. Village had everything needed for our short stay - supermarket, bar, several good restaurants and coast nearby.
Only downside was we were there in a heatwave- 38 degrees - and the house had no air con or fans. We couldn’t leave windows open at night due to the noise from the bar opposite. However, this did not spoil our enjoyment of the place.
We rested up there for 3 days between city breaks in Porto and Lisbon.
We did visit Buddha Eden which was 30 mins drive. Gorgeous sculpture park. We also did various beaches... Sintra and Cascais also only 40 mins south

In fact, your stay was during a period where the temperatures were the highest ever recorded in our region, where the temperatures are usually mild.
The perfect house - the perfect hosts!
We are a family of 4: 2 adults and two teenage surfer girls. We came to the Milvus house in Assenta for a beach week and this house was perfect in every way.
The house: two nice bedrooms, one master and one for the girls. Perfect!
The kitchen: everything you need is there. It's clean and functional. However, we used it mainly to cook for breakfast because we found a churresquaria (rotisserie) at 30 seconds walking distance. This restaurant owned by Victor was a source of astonishment every night! You can order two full chickens (it's amazing!) with rice, fries and veggies for 4 for less than 25 euros! The grilled octopus is also great! At that price, why cook?
The surroundings: across the street, there's a nice little grocery store where you can buy quality stuff for next to nothing (decent wine under 2 euros!). Speaking portuguese would be a great asset there, since the staff does not not pick up a lot of english and no french. Right in front of the house is a small café where we got our espressos for 0,60 euros!
The beach: in Assenta, there's two beaches: north beach and south beach. Mostly rocky beaches, they allow you to lay in the sand at low tide. The landscape is amazing with the tall rocky cliffs, especially at sunset. If you want a real beach with surfing and the white sand, you will need to go 15 minutes by car to praia azul (blue beach) or matadouro beach in Ericeira (the best surf spot).
The hosts: Joao ans Angela are great! They were there when we arrived and they offered us a basket of local food to make us feel welcome right off the bat! The were very generous in time ans advice. When we left, they offered us other gifts and precious advice before we plunged into Lisboa.
Overall, don't miss the opportunity to live the life as a local in a small and beautiful portuguese village! You won't regret it!

The perfect holiday home
A beautiful property with loads of character and fully equipped with everything we needed and then some. Perfectly located in a quiet town within travelling distance of Lisbon for those who prefer not to stay in the city itself. Our kids loved the nearby beaches, and thanks to Joao's recommendations, they spent many hours exploring amazing rockpools. Joao and Angela were very welcoming hosts, helpful and very friendly. We would not hesitate to recommend them and House Milvus to family and friends.

vielen Dank für die schönen Wochen in Eurem Häuschen. Wir haben uns gut erholt. Wir kommen gerne wieder.
Das Haus ist sehr gut ausgestattet und liegt mitten im Dorf Assenta. Einkaufen, Essen gehen oder eine Bica (Kaffee) trinken, alles fußläufig. Einzig das Kaffee gegenüber ist abends etwas laut - uns hat es jedoch nicht gestört. Wir haben wirklich Land und Leute bei einem Fado-Abend und Muttertag-Mittagessen im Ort kennen gelernt - besondere Momente. Ein sehr guter Ausgangspunkt für Fahrten u.a. nach Lissabon, Sintra sowie Óbidos.
La maison est idéalement située pour visiter la région. Elle est aussi trés bien équipée!
Nous avons passé un excellent séjour dans cette jolie région du Portugal. Nos hôtes étaient charmants et disponibles. La maison est jolie, bien équipée et très bien située.
