Beautiful peaceful garden stay in Majorca
The property is in a delightful garden. The accommodation is simple , but sufficient. Many cultural and historic visits nearby and also the delightful port of Valldemossa, where swimming is possible. ( 20 minutes away). The owner is charming and friendly.
Many thanks for your kind review. It was great meeting you both, and I enjoyed your company during our 'chat' times. Thank you for staying and choosing my property.
Studio in great location, surrounded by amazing mountains, good views from veranda.
Studio is basic but has what you need, including air conditioning. Is in a lovely, peaceful garden and the veranda overlooks the garden and has views of the mountains. We ate every meal outside on the Veranda. This is a great base for getting anywhere in the mountains: close to Valdemossa and short drive down to Port Valdemossa where locals go swimming. Lots of other coves nearby if you are happy to walk and explore the coastal paths. We were sad to leave, the area is so stunning, lovely sunsets just down the road from the Studio and the sea is so clear and lots of fish. If you are wanting a romantic time just note that over here double beds can be made out of two single mattresses that don't zip together and there was a bit of a dip in the middle! We had a great time and would come back again. Chris was very friendly and was happy to show us around her garden.
Many thanks for your Review and I’m happy that you enjoyed the location so much along with your stay. It was also a pleasure meeting you both.
For those potential clients who read ‘reviews’ and book the property accordingly, I should like to defend my Garden Studio – all 30sq. mts. of it ! With reference to ‘basic’ but it has what you need….. I thought a bed in the middle of a room with little else would constitute ‘basic’! The Studio is 100% true to the photos posted, with attractive wood furniture and offers excellent holiday storage facilities. There is a TV (multi-channels in Spanish, English..BBC, ITV etc, French, and German), Also, rugs for winter warmth (bedside mats only in summer), electric blankets (winter only). Air Conditioning/heating, tasteful Mediterranean art work on the walls, bedside lamps and good lighting thru’ out the Studio. And of course, Wifi.
The beds need to be singles to accommodate guest requirements - the mattresses are of good quality (even though they don’t ‘zip’ together) - double bottom fitted sheets and duvets are used on this super king sized double, plus good feather pillows, bed linen etc. and over a span of 25 years ‘romance’ has well and truly flourished ! The bathroom, larger than the average, is well appointed. The kitchen is attractive too – dining table for two,- good work surface, 2 burner hot plate, microwave, electric kettle, toaster, plus ample kitchen equipment for 2 guests on holiday ! There is also a washing machine (not in Studio), iron and board, drying rack and hair dryer. The Patio is large (20 sq.mt) with dining table, chairs, and BBQ and the very private 80 sq.mts. plus Studio gravel garden has 2 sun loungers, sun shade, coffee table, chairs and cushions. The Studio is not a ‘posh’ upmarket modern apartment, it is a delightful and charming ‘casita’ in a magical location of Peace and Quiet, which is advertised very fairly and honestly, and at a minimum is ‘’Basic Plus’’ !
Perfect for a hiking holiday
We've stayed for a week and had a wonderful time. The cottage is clean and well-equipped. The mountain views are superb, the owner very friendly. It was a perfect base for an excellent hiking holiday.
Thank you so much for reviewing my property. It was a pleasure to meet you both, and I am delighted that you, not only, had a great time hiking in this beautiful area, but you also enjoyed staying on my property.
Not very private and not worth the money
The Garden Studio is in fact a partly (some of it is still in use for tools etc) converted garage within the owner's house garden. The accommodation looks out at the owner's house, very nearby, the owner of which is in residence pretty much at all times. It is over 2km from Valldemossa, a walk along a busy road with no pavements.
On first arrival, we were disappointed to find that there was nothing provided in the way of soap, washing up liquid, salt etc. We had arrived on a Sunday and bought basic foodstuffs at the local supermarket, but it was closed by the time we discovered this. We were loathe to buy all these things for such a short stay; it was an annoyance. We have holidayed in many self catering cottages, never has there been nothing in the way of essentials provided, even if it is whatever the previous renters have left behind.
There was a list of Do's and Don'ts, none of which were very helpful, no emergency numbers, no bus times etc. They mainly related to the owner's dog, which came to the door frequently. The information regarding the supermarket was out of date. The facilities were BASIC, there was no aircon, which meant opening the windows and numerous mosquitos flying in. An army of ants were nesting in the kitchen. The property could have done with a bit of tlc, the grout was chipped away and the fridge, microwave and boiler were ancient and VERY noisy. During the day, the sprinklers were on, which splashed over the patio and made sitting there unpleasant: we were also only several feet away from the owner, who was out in her (beautiful) garden. We did not stay for the length of the week, but the owner charged us the same price. We were not shown the electricity meter before or after the owner told us what we owed on top of rent. Considering that we were out all of the time as it was a little uncomfortable to hang around, and that we had switched off the noisy fridge, we must just have been paying for the boiler.
We were lucky in that we had some local knowledge and contacts, if we hadn't we might have had a rather miserable time.
We would have been much better off paying for a B&B, for the same cost we would have been getting breakfast and we wouldn't have been doing dishes with no soap and the very old, dirty scourer that was provided. We ended up eating out every night to avoid the place. Valldemossa is very beautiful, with plenty to see and do, we hope to return there. We will not be returning to 'the Garden Studio'.
After 20 years of successful business with the Garden Studio, and a Guest Book that sings its praises, receiving this review came as a bad surprise. The property is described very fairly and does not pretend to be something that it is not. It is very comfortable, the beds super kingsize, it has a nice bathroom with bath and shower, and a very workable kitchen with 2 electric burners, microwave, toaster, electric kettle and fridge, which was NEW last year, and a large patio.
My labrador dog, is usually The Star of the property, but it is stated very clearly that if guests don't like dogs, that they should tell me.
The Garden Studio is at least 30 meters away from the house, from the kitchen closer to 40 meters. A Garden Studio is obviously in the garden and grounds of a private property....this is all stated in the advertisement.
The property is self catering and I do not supply food etc. for my guests..... I only met these guests the day after they arrived as they had come to visit friends in the village. They did not have a car and it was impossible to know when they were in the Studio or not. I saw them twice in their whole visit.. They also departed very early on the Sunday morning without advising me the day before. My property is rented by The Week, and my prices that work out at 60 euros a night are not exactly exagerated. The Studio is in a magical setting of peace and quite. The watering system comes on April/May at around 7.30 or 8pm.... not exactly the afternoon ! Ants are a part of Mallorca and mediterranean life.... and my guests inform me if they have a problem. The Garden Studio is also secluded from the house and private - I find their comments absurd and so would all my many other happy clients. Also it is not a converted garage - the garage is attached.
These guests would not have been able to find cheap B § B in Valldemossa.... and it is beyond my comprehension why they have made such a negative Review such a long time after visiting.
I believe my Garden Studio is good value for money and a paradise for the majority of its occupants, and over the years I have had many repeat guests.
Thank you so much for your words and very happy you enjoyed your stay. I enjoyed meeting you both and loved the 'energy' you left behind. All good wishes, Chris.
Thanks so much Thomas and Kirsten for such a lovely review. It was a pleasure having you both stay. I shall look forward to seeing you in the future. Chris
Valldemossa has easy access to all parts of the island and is an ideal centre for mountain excursions. There are many restaurants in all price ranges, including the exclusive Valldemossa Hotel. There is a small well stocked supermarket, excellent bakers, banks, pharmacy, and other stores selling clothing, jewellery, artwork and gifts. Sundays there is a Market. The romantic old Valldemossa monastery, the Palace of King Sancho and Michael Douglas´s Costa Nord Cultural Centre, provide interesting excursions, along with Miramar and Son Marroig a few kilometres away. Puerto Valldemossa also, not only offers an excellent fish restaurant, but superb swimming and snorkelling in crystal clear waters, and is only ´just down the road´. Deya, once home of Robert Graves, is a mere 10 minutes drive away and abounds with restaurants, the famous La Residencia Hotel, and a bohemian night life. There are also classical and jazz concerts in both villages, especially during the summer months.
