About Noe' Anna Bonas
I bought and cleared the land, designed the home for my large extended family to enjoy vacations. The house was completed in 2002 and I have enjoyed this part of Hawaii ever since. Like me, many visitors have not wanted to miss out on this rejuvenating village, away from the crowded streets of town, to discover where the locals come to eat, drink and relax here at Kealakekua Bay with family and friends. It does not take long for vacationers to soon treasure this place best known to the locals…. for its feeling of being “home”. There is no place like it… I am often asked, what brought you here? I was studying Hawaiian healing with kahunas and Hawaiian kapunas, "elders" when in the late 1990's I looked across the bay and was struck by an overwhelming feeling of ecstasy. Within 8 months I found a lot for sale, cleared the land, designed a house and built it. It is one of my best decisions as it has brought much happiness to me and my family, as well as to guests who have come here from around the world.
Noe' Anna Bonas purchased this House in 2000

Captain Cook house review 2/27/2020 Property ID 72296
The setting is lovely, first rate, non touristy and very near a small, quiet park with picnic tables and swimming access to the ocean (no sand beach).
The owner, Anna, is very helpful and attentive. The house is pleasant with a very well equipped kitchen and a large living area and lanai.
The biggest problem was noise from the construction, the building of a major addition to the house. The noise was quite disturbing during week days especially on the lanai. Anna responded by directing the noisiest construction noise to the far side of the property, but it was still noisy. This was exacerbated because many in our party spent all day at the house.
The toilet situation was inconvenient at best, as only one of the two bathrooms is accessible from the main hallway, making it inconvenient for people on the third floor, and causing midnight waiting lines. The second bathroom is accessible only from in the master bedroom, making it generally inconvenient .
The third floor area was very clean and neat, but consisted of one large room with 5 beds providing little privacy and was a bit noisy.
All and all the beauty of the locale and most features of the house made up for the inconveniences we encountered.
I apologize again for the construction noise. I know that those who chose to stay at the house during the some of their days here because of age and mobility that this was not the best situation. I’m glad that other family members were able to enjoy themselves and venture out swimming in the bay and doing other sightseeing.
After hosting guests and extended families from all over the world many requests were made for the great room to have more individual beds. So that the Great room/ 4th bedroom was made to respond to those requests.
Again I deeply apologize for the construction which shouldn’t be finished by the end of March 2020. I hope to make changes In the house that will better meet the needs of those staying here.
Mahalo nui loa, thank you for your feedback.
Location, location- great and not so.....
Lovely gathering place to get our family of 3 adult children, with their partners and our almost 2 year old grandson. The young adults did not like the distance from places, i.e. sandy beaches, and going out. Parents loved the quiet home where we could listen to birds and frogs, and the proximity of the Kealakekua Bay and Manini Beach. Wonderful breakfast and dinners on the large lanai.
Fans in every room kept the house cool enough at night, and we were off exploring for most of the days. No family vacation is without its low points, but all in all, a wonderful tropical treat.
Anna was so helpful, as we did not arrive to Kona until 1015 at night, with milk and coffee and pineapple with banana bread for breakfast, and had lots of beach toys. We would come back.
Mahalo Judy and Steve. You have a wonderful family. I’m glad you enjoyed Kealakekua Bay. Many people come here From all over the world to take advantage of not having to get into the car to jump into the water for a swim and snorkeling with dolphins In the bay. I just saw a spotted manta ray playing close to shore, and a mother and baby whale spouting near the Captain Cook monument. We love being away from the bustle of town in our magical tropical setting, yet close enough to zip in when we want to.
A hui hou ...You are always welcome to return
Malama pono. Take care
Anna is the best host ever!
Anna was so great to work with and very hospitable. The property is just beautiful just a fair distance from the city life. Only recommendation is to get cable or dish, the time-frame we were there was rough not being able to watch football games :-)
Overall thoroughly enjoyed our time there!
It was so wonderful having your family here enjoying the bay, beaches, golfing, manta ray night dives, snorkeling and kayaking ...
Thank you, I appreciate your feedback. You are the 2nd person in 20 years who have wanted the TV for a game. Sorry about that... we only have WiFi for everyone’s Electronic devices
Many guests love watching the game at the Royal Kona with the waves crashing to shore, at Don’s maitai bar. Good food and party atmosphere while watching the games outdoors.
Thanks again you have a wonderful family’s
A hui hou, malama pono, until we meet again take care.
Anna made this such an amazing holiday for our family
Our family of 7 adults and 4 children that were 3 years old and under all had such a wonderful time. From the delish welcome loaf to Anna giving us great info on things to see. Always there to help us.
We loved the house and it actually fit all of us with room to spare. Our grandkids were always super excited to see the geckos. The yard was filled with beautiful flowers and aloe that Anna was kind enough to cut for my husbands burn. (THANKS)
The very nearby beach was lava but had a great grassed area. Well taken care of. My daughter and husband really enjoyed the snorkeling..
We tried to be respectful of our noise level as we did have young children but everyone was really understanding.
I do want to make an official apology to Anna and Catherine for leaving so many towels unwashed. We had to leave really early. Sorry!!
I would highly recommend this property
Tina & Joe & Family from British Columbia
Aloha Tina and Joe
We loved having you here. What a special Family you have. I am so happy that you had a wonderful time. I hope that you had a pleasant easy trip home. May you all have many more amazing family vacations together.
No worries about the towels, that’s our job. You all left everything in perfect order. Thank you.
A hui hou, May you come again
Not for large groups
The good- Anna the owner is very friendly and helpful with tips about the island, places to see. we loved the fresh coconuts and learning to peal them!! They provide some snorkeling gear and floating devices which was nice so we didnt have to purchase or rent them.
The house is not really set up for large groups as advertised, (we had 15) anyone sleeping in the loft Bedroom/tv room has no privacy. No floor fans makes it extremely uncomfortable heat wise. some of our group (kids) had to sleep on the floor on cushions that my kids said felt the same as the floor.
The bathrooms were not conducive for a large group of 15 as one bathroom is attached to a room (not master) and makes it nice for the 2 people in that room but hard for everyone else. Pillows were some sort of not pillow, (quilt stuffing) very uncomfortable.
AND The ugly-
The neighbors are rude at best! the 1st night they were upset that we had the yard light on, 1/2 our group arrived at 9 and the rest around 10:30. We found out the hard way without the light the last step at the top is a doozie, 3 of us tripped while going up, Then the 3rd morning the neighbor yelled at us to turn our car lights off when we had to leave for any early morning outing to go fishing. The last night at 8:39 they flipped on their yard light and yelled shut up when we were on the phone checking in with family at home (not even talking loud). We could not enjoy any of the evening on the deck due to the quiet hours, 10pm to 8am. Not even adults visiting...
The seating inside was not enough room to sit and visit inside because we had kids in the up stairs (on the floor sleeping), seating for meals in the inside is non-existent and the only eating table is outside, nice but you cant use it because of noise. Yes EVEN just talking.
The laundry is down stairs in the garage and the tunnel/path isnt even wide enough for the laundry bucket. (Yes bucket, actually at home I water my horses in the same one) making laundry a pain in the butt. The "checkout" requirements are ridiculous, you get charged a $50hr cleaning fee... um check out is at 11am, I dont want to spend my last night cleaning...
The area is not that kid friendly, very small yard and the main play area is where everyone has to park. Parking was confusing due to the neighbors parking at the same property.
Because of the neighbors and quiet time I would not recommend it be a VRBO for children or large groups.
Wow! Candi, What a shocking review. Of course, I feel horrible. In all of our conversations I wish you would have told me what was going on, so I could have made whatever corrections I could have to make your stay more enjoyable.
Thank you for your comments, in using your comments we will make every effort to make things better for those who stay here.
As your review came in, a note came from VRBO from other guests who have stayed here also came.
Travelers love your property! So be proud and keep up the good work!
"Anna’s house is a perfect place for a family gathering like ours. We enjoyed how this location ..."
We have large groups and families come and return each year from all over the world.
Candi, I imagine that the size of our 1/2 acre yard must have seemed quite small in comparison to your 160 acre ranch in Florence, Montana. It was wonderful to see that your children seemed to adapt; we enjoyed them running on the grass, playing airplane, and football. At times we observed how obedient they were to their parents when called, which says a lot about how well they are being raised.
I personally felt the children were very happy and respectful to me, as were all of my conversations with the adults here with you. I was happy to have them all here.
There are floor fans in the closet, both upstairs and down for your use as well as the ceiling fans in each room. Again, I wish you had communicated to me.
There is no $50.00 an hour cleaning fee. It did take me from 11AM to 6 PM to clean the kitchen and living room quartzite floor tiles of ground in food, cookies, and crayons. There was an unusual need for cleaning after you all left. However, you were not charged for that, I can understand how you thought you would be.
Cleaning: Our only request for laundry, is that the night before guests leave to give us the extra beach towels, with guests keeping what they need in the morning, so that we can wash and dry them. And run the dishwasher before you leave.
The State of Hawaii is regulating night noise to protect all guests and residents. So, from 10 pm to 8 am we ask guests to observe a quiet time outdoors, taking lively conversations indoors. On your last evening several adults were outdoors in conversation after 10 and it was perfectly acceptable.
I do apologize for your unhappiness.
I was happy that all of the kids and some of the adults said thank you and that they had a great time, and loved the weather.
Spacious house with a gracious host, what more could you ask for!
Anna’s house is a perfect place for a family gathering like ours. We enjoyed how this location allowed us to go kayaking in the bay, swimming with the dolphins and get up for early morning runs. It is a great location for snorkeling, biking, kayaking, running, yoga or just relaxing on the lawn.
We had one family use th upstairs room for a family of six. Another used the bigger bedroom
for the two year old an infant and parents. The other two rooms where for the adults without kids. I loved the big outside dining area wher e we all enjoyed having dinner together often using the grill. The kitchen is well equipped and spacious. Anna our host was amazing, providing us with lots of good information as well as the use of snorkeling, buggy boards and kids equipment for the beach. We will definitely return!
