About Valancy Harlow
Steve is a Chartered Financial Consultant and Valancy is a dental hygienist and a certified group exercise / water fitness instructor. Steve is a native Mainer and Valancy grew up in New Brunswick, Canada. We have one son, who is a recent college graduate in Civil Engineering. Our son has played hockey since age 4 so these are our first winters not spent living at the rink! Valancy and our yellow lab, Samson, have become quite the team on the dog agility competition circuit. You may see Samson practicing his jumps off the dock. We love skiing and we love the lake!
Why Valancy Harlow chose Waterboro
Steve stumbled across the property while teaching in the local school district back in 1980. It's location on the deepest end of the lake and the level/gentle sloping lot with 173' of direct lakefront made it too good to pass up. He used his summer time off to build out the large garage into an in-law guest house, which allowed his parents to move into it when they retired in 1985. While constantly updating the property every year, it now bears little resemblance to the large chalet camp of 1980. After moving to Saco in 2006, we decided to share Grand View 14 as a rental property unlike any other you will find in the area.
What makes this House unique
Being a grandfathered property, we are lucky to have our home located only 50 feet from the water, with a gentle slope on the lakeside with a flat grass play area inside the circular drive on the street side. We also love the serenity of all the hidden coves on the Lake. The perfect start to a day is to paddle around in the kayaks watching the sunrise.

Loved the beautiful summary. We were not crazy about the second bedroom being really just a game room off kitchen with everyone being able to see into it. No privacy. Maybe put up a door and at least some cliseable shutters on openings to kitchen. The weather was great and the owners were accessible and easy to talk to
Let's start with "WOW"
What an incredible week at Lake Arrowhead!!! The place was great and the location was PERFECT for anyone looking for a remote place on the lake. If you like fishing...look no further. We caught a bunch of crappie and perch. We pulled in some small pike as well. And THEN our last day we hit the large mouth bass. The 3 pound bass that I caught was the king of the week...for 5 minutes and then my wife hauled in a 5 pounder that was 24 inches long! I had just as much fun recording her fight that bass and seeing her huge smile holding that whopper than I did catching my own fish.
We split our week driving 45 minutes to an hour to different coastal cities to staying at the property playing on the lake (they provided a paddle boat, 2 kayaks, a canoe, and a row boat). And yes, they had life jackets, flotation cushions, anchor, and paddles/oars all ready. What really made the week was the thought that Valancy and Steve put into the stay! The decor, music (vinyl record collection!), and all of the little things like a day cooler for our trips to the coast. We cooked at least half our meals there and had everything we needed for cooking (utensils, pots, pans, slow cooker, etc). They really put a personal touch to the stay leaving a welcome message and such. We didn't need to call them during our week but we knew that they were just a text or call away. Their communication both before and after the stay was impressive. They have been the best VRBO contact we have made in our many VRBO stays! When we come back to Maine, we will not think of staying anywhere but with them at either this property (VRBO Property ID 73445) or their beach house property (VRBO Property ID 66663). They truly impressed us that much!
Perfect spot for a getaway
We had a great time. The property was as advertised. We did some kayaking and fishing. Good central location for seeing the sites in Maine. Would highly recommend.
Delightful lakefront property great for families
Our stay was wonderful. The lake is perfect for swimming and the property had kayaks and a paddle boat for extra fun. The lakeside house had everything we wanted - right down to a hammock overlooking the water.
Peaceful lake get-a-way
Great for our family of 5 (3 kids, 2 adults). Kayaks, canoe and pedal boat all available to take out from the dock. The kids (and parents) loved listening to Abba, Billy Joel and many other 1980's (vinyl) records! Our son read many Hardy Boys books that were available. We played some board games and built a puzzle in the down time.
Shortly after we arrived, Steve and Valancy gave us a very warm welcome and graciously took us out on their boat for a tour of Arrowhead lake.
We enjoyed our morning coffee on the dock almost every day. The house had everything we needed with extra's including a soft cooler so we could pack a lunch when we went out to do touristy things. We used the indoor pool at the clubhouse a few times too.
The house does have a very open floor plan - though not a problem for our family, it could be for some. The 2nd bedroom has a partially open wall and curtains for a door which is right next to the kitchen dining area so making morning coffee can wake people sleeping in that bedroom. There was also no door for the master bathroom.
Overall, we had a very nice week at this house and the owners are very friendly and kindly available when we needed them.
We an awesome time staying here. Valancy and Steve were great and always available if we had any questions. The house was super clean and the property was well maintained. My teenage daughter described herself in a posting as a “lakeaholic” at the end of the week. She echoed all of our sentiments. We had a wonderful vacation with many great adventures and memories.
2018 weeks are booking quickly. Don't miss out on your chance to enjoy a RELAXING vacation week on the water's edge!
One of Southern Maine's nicest lakes, Lake Arrowhead is known for its world class bass fishing. The Department of Fisheries and Wildlife has recently named Lake Arrowhead as the only Trophy Base Lake in Maine and it regularly plays host to some of the areas biggest bass fishing championships. In fact, NESN and ESPN's Emmy award winning Charlie Moore, aka, 'The Mad Fisherman', can occasionally be seen filming his show on our waters. Watch for his bright orange boats! It is an 1100 acre lake, ideally located between Portland, Maine and North Conway, New Hampshire. It is known for its crystal-clear water, perfect for swimming and boating. It is full of coves, islands and inlets which make for some nice exploring with canoes or kayaks.
