We stayed in Hassford Gulch for a week during the late summer season and had a spectacular time! This is a spacious home with a formal English Manor, yet cozy and inviting in every space it has, being it a bedroom, living room, kitchen or outdoor patio. There is a stunning view of the Elk Mountains form every angle possible, which adds to the beauty and peacefulness the house already has. Its convenient location to ski lifts, walking trails, a private golf course, and to the town of Crested Butte gives one so many options to choose from for day activities. Enjoying the dreamy sunsets from the patio or the very spacious living or dining room is such a treat! The house is also equipped with every amenity one will need during a vacation, and I must mention the comfortable theater room and bar it has on the first floor! Convenience, comfort, beauty; all together it is a treat to stay in Hassford Gulch!
Life Is Good
What a dream! We have been twice to Hassford Gulch, once in the summer and once in ski season. Both are spectacular when you are staying in this spectacular home. Our son loves to golf and our daughter loves to snow ski so it is the best of both worlds. Right on the golf course and only about 5 minutes to the ski area. Even though the home is palatial it still has such a nice cozy at home feeling. There is plenty of places to escape and have some alone time and there are several nice big areas for larger groups to congregate and mingle. This home will satisfy the needs of families with children from all ages. The views from every room are picturesque and the less than 5 minute travel time to Crested Butte is fabulous. Everything from the decor to the views to the amenities to the convenience is something to behold!
Hassford Gulch exceeds every expectation that I could imagine. It is a magnificent home strategically designed to bring the beauty of the surrounding mountains into every room. This home uniquely combines the formality of an English Manor with a welcoming Western influence. The floor plan on the main level provides for every kind of entertaining opportunity. Stunning works of English furnishing and art fill the living room, dining room and study. The kitchen has state of the art appliances including a pasta sink and every amenity that a gourmet chef could desire.
Downstairs, family and friends can gather in the comfortable theater room and Buffalo Bar for movies, cards, board games and other evening activities. I stayed in the Travelers Room, appropriately named for its outside entrance and personal kitchen. Another bedroom downstairs is named Oh Be Joyful as it sits directly facing the entrance to the Oh Be Joyful Mine high in the mountains. That nomenclature sums up the Hasford Gulch experience.
Simply put, Hassford Gulch offers everything you could want from a Colorado vacation.
Hassford Gulch is well suited for a variety of "get away groups". This group was a ladies only group attending the Crested Butte Film Festival. They had a great time not only at the house but also taking advantage of all the community has to offer. Other groups who have stayed at Hassford Gulch include: extended family gatherings celebrating anniversaries, family reunions, and home base for other family members to come and go; small corporate/company planning retreats; ski groups; golf groups; and those who just want a "get away' vacation in the mountains.
Where to start? Hassford Gulch offers so much more than anticipated. It is a magical place nestled within hiking distance of the charming town of Crested Butte and has every possible amenity and then some. I liked the decor--the owners have done a good job of adding historical touches and interesting elements that say, "Hey, settle here for awhile and read a good book, or visit with friends, or just sit and take it all in," there being a lot of nooks and crannies for such. The area boasts plenty to do, even if you're not a skier. Shopping is good, the restaurants are all terrific, and the locals are friendly. We had a ball!
There is a reason that the locals (and each new visitor) call the Upper Gunnison Valley, "The Edge of Paradise". And as one local architect said when standing on the balcony at Hassford Gulch looking at the surroundings, he said, "You know, there is not a bad view in this valley --but standing here, I can't think of a better one."
This place is incredible!!! It's a castle filled with gorgeous antiques and yet totally comfortable. The kitchen is a chef's dream, the theater offers entertainment for everyone, the views from every window are like beautiful paintings, hiking trails are nearby and much more. The owners are most helpful and keep it extremely well-maintained. It's private and yet just a short drive into town. I couldn't recommend it more highly!!!
Golfing, alpine and cross-country skiing; snow-shoeing; ice skating; hiking, biking, fly fishing, rafting, horseback riding, shopping in the national historic district town of Crested Butte, superb restaurants, live theater, movies, special events, and musical performances.
