We had daily issues with hot water for showers in the small bathroom. There were 3 of us using it and only one had hot water. The other 2 had cool showers
Nice but needs a few updates
We stayed at this location over Spring Break and were looking forward to the space the house has. I'll start with the positives. Great amazing view from the porch, nice breeze in the morning and evenings, the privacy this house provides also keeps it very quite (except for the dogs and rooster across the valley). It's a short drive/walk to Cane Bay beach, Rowdy Joe's, Eat, and Off the Wall. The beds were extremely comfortable and the AC worked great! The house had some basic household items (ie: ziploc and trash bags, soap, shampoo, detergent to name a few) which is nice to not have to go out and purchase for a one week stay. The gated yard made it feel very safe and secure. Washer and dryer worked great which is unusual for a beach house however much appreciated.
Now for the negatives...there were 7 wasp nests on the porch when we arrived with some cans of wasp spray. Not sure why the local care taker would not attend to that before we arrive? The kitchen is very small and hard to cook in with zero counter space, the kitchen cookware could use some updating as all the pans are very old and the stove had only one out of the five burners working. My son found someone's old vape in the couch which just says they don't clean very well. This is a three bedroom (master king, #2 queen #3 twin), however you have to walk through bedroom #3 to get to the master. Not the end of the world just hard for privacy. The biggest and most concerning issue was WE RAN OUT OF WATER! The cistern ran dry and the owner tried to say it was because we showered too long. I have family on this island and if someone had checked the cistern prior to our arrival they would have seen the water was low and had some delivered. When we did call, they did nothing to assist getting any water until the following day. We couldn't flush the toilets for 24hrs. We did have some bottled water previously on hand so we had that for drinking and we were able to go to my family's house to shower. The onsite care taker should have brought us water at a minimum. I realize this is a home on an island and things happen, however running out of water is NOT something that anyone would expect when renting a home. I look forward to hearing from someone regarding these issues and the resolution.
I would still recommend this house as these are all issues the owners can easily address for future renters to enjoy!
Matt, we're glad you enjoyed the beautiful views from this home! This time of year wasps are heavily present in the area. The homeowner has instructed the maintenance and cleaning crew to spray and remove them, but unfortunately, they rebuild quickly. We're sorry they were unable to eradicate them before your arrival. This home is a quintessential vintage 1969 St. Croix home and the kitchen also reflects this historic charm. However, we're sorry you didn't find it adequate for your needs. Although all the burners on the stove do work, the owners are aware that there is a mechanism that stops working intermittently. They will provide information for a solution for future guests if they encounter the same scenario. The owners had checked the cisterns shortly before your arrival and thought there was enough water supply. Since St. Croix has been in a recent drought, they apologize that they were mistaken. They are taking the necessary steps to ensure that this situation does not recur for future guests. However, they went to very generous measures to make things right due to the inconvenience. The owners use a trusted housekeeping staff and are sorry to hear you felt the cleanliness was subpar. They are continuously working with the cleaning staff to ensure guest satisfaction.
