About Lincoln B Quintana
Only a miracle (combined with a lot of elbow grease) made it possible for us to own the Palacio. As shown in this picture, we have re-plumbed and massively renovated the property. I'm good with a pick and shovel and my wife has good taste and knows southwest art and design. We are committed to making the Palacio a place where guests can find their own miracles.
Lincoln B Quintana purchased this House in 2015
Why Lincoln B Quintana chose El Prado
The Palacio was originally built by an artist who was also a contractor and a pilot. It was his gallery. It adjoins the Taos Indian Reservation lands and stands in the lee of El Salto and the "Magic Mountain". Now we are remaking it into a place where groups can spend a few days, a week or a month taking in the magic of Taos. The main house has beds and bedrooms for 12 and sleeping room for up to 20. The separate guest house has its own bathroom, kitchenette, bedroom and study with sleeping space for another 6 people. The guest house is available at a discount to guests in the main house, or at a reduced first-season rate to smaller parties.
What makes this House unique
Beams, latillas, woodwork, adobe and plaster all set the stage for the quintessential Taos experience, but the huge rooms give the Palacio a magnificence that is not found elsewhere. The building makes me feel expansive and lets my mind roam. Bring your art or music and be creative here. Or sit back and enjoy life in a palatial space.

Wonderful home for large group to ski Taos!
Our group of 20 was incredibly comfortable during our ski vacation. We had plenty of sleeping room: and, even more importantly, there were several living spaces where different groups could visit independently. We’ll be back!
Palace of Miracles
That's how we will remember our family's white Christmas of 2019. After two years of planning, we found the perfect house for our family of 12 adults and 12 children. It had everything we hoped for and more. With plenty of space for the littles and the teens and the adults to gather for fun and games; and quiet, out of the way retreat-like cubby holes for a thoughtful moment to yourself...this place has it all. From beginning to end, Linc, the housekeepers, the extra helpers bent over backwards to make sure our stay was perfect. We came from all over Texas and Colorado to make memories for a lifetime in a historical New Mexico adobe. Some of our favorite things were the gorgeous fireplaces, amazingly stocked kitchen, comfy places for everyone to sit, sleep, and play, the hot tub, and the singing deer. We found the nearby US Hill to be a great place for sledding and snow tubing. Red River and Sipapu were close enough for our skiers to enjoy a morning of snow sports.
Large Group Retreat
We had about 25 people sleeping at the Palacio with an additional 10 joining us during the day for a 3-day retreat. There were a couple of people sleeping on couches or who had brought pads to sleep on the floor, but otherwise all were able to find bed or futon space. Worth noting that we are all fairly hardy types who were willing to give up a little bit of privacy and comfort for the days we were there - I probably wouldn't recommend squeezing that many in otherwise!
We re-arranged the furniture in the main gallery to be able to sit our whole group in a circle-ish formation, and used the other two larger rooms for breaking out when needed.
Kitchen had lots of supplies including coffee makers and crock pots, there were two grills, lots of extra linens and towels...and just generally it's a really cool building with lots of nice artwork and interesting features. Property manager was very easy to work with.
If you're thinking about a large group like us just keep in mind what I wrote above. For any size group smaller than ours I would recommend this place without hesitation!
35 People are almost a record at the Palacio De Milagros! Only my duaghter and her friends from college and graduate school were able to fit more. And it's true that when you get more than 20 you have to be a little creative with bedspace. But I'm very happy this great group was able to take advantage of the many huge spaces and the friendly expansive nature of the Palacio.
And Michael is also right that even though the large rooms can accommodate large numbers, there is the fact that with larger groups, there are more people in the same rooms, so the number of heads per room goes up. It means that the privacy per person goes down. So it's good to be friendly if you're bringing a lot of friends to the Palacio!
NOTE: When bringing more than 12, we recommend that some of the group BYOB (Bring Your Own Bag -- sleeping).
Large El Prado Home
Pros - Very large home, good for larger groups with children. Many beds and futon couches. Kitchen well stocked. Lovely sculptures throughout. Comfortable beds and bedding. Three different nice living areas. Large parking area. Good information provided on local activities.
Cons - Kitchen is separated from rest of house. House is not completely updated with some wiring hanging out of walls, pipes exposed, etc. Lips or stairs between most rooms, without lighting, so falls and trips occurred for all in our party. Lighting without batteries in several areas. Light switches hard to find. No heat in portions of house first night; party member had to restart pilot light in cellar twice. No firewood provided on porch or in house as stated. Yard not maintained and weedy in back with construction in progress.
Our policy is the guest is always right! We appreciate the compliments but we also appreciate constructive criticism. So, we've taken these steps in response to this review:
1- We've checked all bulbs and batteries and added new lights so all stairways have at least 2 night lights. We've also instructed houskeepers to leave table lamps on in case guests arrive at night.
2- There are a three instances where the light switch is located in the room next door to the light that is switched. We've added info to the guide and map about light switches in the dining room, library and pantry.
3- The Palacio has many heat sources a boiler, a forced air furnace, portable electric heaters, and 7 fireplaces. This guest visited on the occasion of the year's first cold snap and the boiler pilot light had not been lit. We've had it inspected, repaired and re-lit. We've also added another portable electric heater for the bunk room.
4- We provide wood for the "first fire" to make sure guests who want to can start a fire when they arrive. Because of the warm indian summer, no fires were being burned until these folks arrived and housekeeping forgot to stock the wood wagon. We have emphasized to the housekeepers to make sure wood is available.
5- Our yard improvements are almost finished (but not quite). The West Yard is now raked and cleared, and ready for spring, when we will be pouring a new concrete patio. Meanwhile, the BBQ and the portals there are available for guests' to use.
Two notes -- There are two wires visible high in the ceiling where we plan to install ceiling fans before next summer (these are not accessible and are not currently connected to electricity; there is no pilot light in the cellar, but all pilot lights are now functioning.
Enormous house with room to spread out
We had an art retreat here with 8 women. The place was spacious enough for twice that many. Interesting art everywhere. Comfy couches and great places to gather and talk.
We rented this beautiful home so we could attend our son's wedding. We are a large family and the owner was amazing at accommodating us. If I ever decide to return to Taos, I will rent this home. So much history, so beautiful and the whole process was wonderfully human. Everything we needed was provided, fully stocked kitchen appliances, linens, and the comfort was perfect.
