Bridget Monaghan purchased this Villa in 2003
Why Bridget Monaghan chose Yunquera
We bought the property as a working farm storage building and spent 3 years converting the property into a 3 bedroom holiday home.My business partner Lee Tyler who recently passed away was instrumental in visualising the interiors design as a talented cabinet maker she made a lot of furniture in the house. The area was chosen because of it's rustic and true Andalucian qualities beautiful views and natural surroundings.
What makes this Villa unique
Spectacular views and a feeling of tranquility as well as the sound of farm animals around the area of the villa and goat herds that pass by the front door and never cease to amaze me.

Excellent holiday retreat!
Thoroughly enjoyed our week at the villa. Views were stunning, villa well-equipped and infinity pool to die both in terms of the view from it and for it being such a bonus when the heat got too much. Would highly recommend it but not for anyone struggling with stairs as on several levels as explained in the property description. A real find if you want to escape the rat race and go to a part of Spain which is not touristy at all.
Our stay was amazing.... the views are to die for. The finca was clean and very comfortable the kitchen was very well equipped. We will definitely be going back.
The house is immaculately designed and fitted out. Yunquera is not the easiest place to get to - the road from the Malaga area gets smaller and bendier the closer you get and the road from Ronda is even worse. Parking has to be at the bottom of a steep hill as well.
Fortunately when you finally get there you will not want to leave...….The infinity pool is awesome and you will spend many hours just watching the world go by looking down into the valley below. Plenty of sun loungers and a hammock to spend the day reading as well. Even a mock Roman amphitheatre...…...
In August it was warm enough to go in the pool at any time of the day or evening and the floodlighting makes this easy. Evening is the time to take advantage of the two barbeques and also the table tennis table and other games.
If the heat gets too much then the house is beautifully cool and comfortable. There is a TV and DVD but we did not use either. The kitchen is all you'd ever need - if you can be bothered to cook. Yunquera has a range of well priced restaurants and you don't need to speak fluent Spanish.
The bedrooms are cool and comfortable. The master is where you'd spend the time due to the balcony and furniture and the fact that now you are effectively on the fifth floor so the views are even more stunning.
What happens if anything goes wrong? Well this was well and truly tested as we came back after dinner to find no electricity in the pool area. We phoned the manager next day and he was straight over to investigate. It needed an electrician so at 0700 next day (and it was a weekend) he duly arrived and 2 hours later it was solved.
We were there 2 weeks. Went to Ronda one day, did the Caminito del Ray another, and then Gibraltar another. That was it. No-one wanted to leave the property - it's that good.
We had a lovely holiday ❤️
Everything was fine - lovely House and pool - a beautiful view and a charming village.
Andy gave us a very Nice welcome - and if we had problems he would help us - but we had no problems / everything was so fine- we loved our time in the House in Yunquera ❤️
Beautiful village house
Had a wonderful family holiday here in this very tasteful and well equipt house in the beautiful Village of Yunquerra in the stunning hills of Andalucia .House has areas for barbequing , table tennis and an infinity pool with the most stunning views . Lovley restaurants in village with delicious food also and well equipt small
Supermarket within walking distance . Had lovley day trip to Ronda and amazing walks in National parks nearby . Definetly would return . Thankyou
Our overall experience was very good and it is true that the Finca has absolutely stunning views. The villa is well equipped and the unheated pool gave lots of pleasure to our young - even at the end of October!!
The local manager of the villa, Andy, is excellent and very helpful. We had a problem with hot water and the operation of the showers which he tried to deal with as best he could. We have told the owners about this.
Clients need to remember that Yunquera is a very old, authentic, rural village on a steep hillside and as a result car parking, whilst generally available nearby, needs considerable care.
A truly memorable (for all the right reasons) holiday!
Special interest holidays:
Walking tours up into the Sierra de las Nieves are available in the village for people of all ages/levels. Birdwatchers will enjoy the variety of birds spotted above and around the house. One of only 5 pairs of nesting Imperial eagles have made their home here along with Golden eagles, kites, falcons and lots of very playful swallows. Horseriding is nearby and can be arranged with a guide on request. The house is ideally located for cycling and motorbike enthusiasts. Just off the recently overhauled, winding mountain road up to Ronda, it's one of the most exciting rides in this part of Spain. There's an English-run hang gliding school about 45 mins from the house, Kite surfing and other beach/wind sports at Tarifa, hot air ballooning in Ronda, Segway tours and bike hire in Malaga and loads more of fun activities all within a reasonable distance.
Marbella is approximately 35 minutes drive away and has a number of really lovely clean beaches. Malaga has a very nice city beach and is very popular with the locals for it's fantastic beach-side fish restaurants serving freshly caught produce, packed on Sundays. Tarifa, the coolest place on the coast for 'surfies' and very popular with all beach sports, is about a 2 hour drive, a beautiful unspoilt location with loads of really well equipped campsites.
Malaga Airport is approximately 45mins drive from the village. Jerez and Seville airports about 2 hours away. Car hire is advised but airport transfers can be arranged by request. Buses go to and from Malaga and Ronda from the village. Trains to most major cities go from both Malaga and Ronda.
Ronda is 35km from the village. The beautiful lakes at El Chorro can be easily reached by car. It takes about 45 minutes to drive there, pedloes and canoes are available for hire and camping overnight is permitted. A great place for swimming, fishing, or just a relaxing lunch. Seville and Jerez are really worth visiting and are an easy 2 hour drive from the house. The Alhambra at Granada is spectacular and can also be reached within 2 hours. This area is famous for it's pretty white villages.
The village has several reasonably well stocked supermarkets, 4 butchers, 2 fishmongers, 4 patisseries, local grocery shops, public telephones, banks and cashpoints, a post office, pharmacy, a tobacconists, 2 discos, a selection of bars serving ice cold beer and tapas and a good number of eateries including a very popular gourmet restaurant run by an internationally trained chef. All the local dishes are delicious, from slow roasted leg of lamb, rabbit cooked in garlic and locally produced olive oil to just a simple plate of egg and chips! Pretty much all the food here is grown or reared around the village and tastes considerably better than in the UK. The village has a number of fiestas all year round that seem to go on for days! Everyone takes part, parading Spanish horsemen, processions through the village, live bands, dancing, huge dishes of free paella, the streets adorned with decorations and lots of fireworks! The Rio Grande, a major river running through this part of Spain, starts here in the village and you can walk down from the house to where it begins, have a picnic and a swim in the lovely fresh clean mountain water. There are several watering points around the village, fresh from the mountain, really cold and very welcome in the searing heat! The surrounding countryside is stunning, with little white houses sprinkled everywhere, there are some splendid walking routes, from an hour or so to five or six hours, whatever suits you. The horseriding trip from the house is definitely recommended, catering for all levels, the route goes right up into the mountains above the house and everyone loves it. The house book is full of local info and maps that guests are welcome to use.
