Notes
- Notes on accommodation: The house is set on a steep slope and split level inside. The front garden is flat and there is room for cars and games and a patio at the side of the house with a BBQ area. There is an adjacent barn. The house has steps up to the pool terraces which are level with the tiled roofs. The pool area is being fenced for safety. Any-one who finds steps difficult would be compromised here. The accommodation is clean and fresh - all bed linen is quality Italian cotton sheeting and Duvets. There are sheets and blankets if preferred. The flooring is tiling downstairs, laminate in the 2 doubles and carpeted upstairs in the large double and en-suite. The furniture is quality (and not flat pack!) and the style is colourful, comfortable unfussy and slightly rustic. The staircase is open and not very baby friendly, and there isn't a child gate. There are extra towels for swimming. The house is very secure with shutters and double locking front door. There are curtains as well as shutters. Outside: large garden, much is "wild woodland" on the steep slope at one side, the front is very attractive basic garden with fig tree, magnolia, irises and grass and flat enough for a game of boules etc . There is covered parking here for two cars and space for about 3 more. The property extends back uphill to terraced small orchard and an overgrown vineyard at the back which is going to be planted with vines. The pool terrace is at roof level and spacious with beautiful views, and accommodates ample sitting area and table for meals for many. We often barBQ up here but there is also a terrace/patio at the side of the house next to the living room which has a BBQ area. The house is accessed via a drive way at the bend in the road. Please be careful here -we are hoping to get permission to put in a mirror, but thankfully it is a very quiet road. Everything to do with the house is private and not shared. There are neighbours but they do not overlook the property, and the nearest road is quiet. Utility Room: large walk in larder with fridge/freezer. washing machine, iron/ ironing board. microwave. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Clean towels and cotton bed linen is included. These are changed every week with the weekly house clean. There is extra bedding for extra guests over 8. High chair/cot can be provided on request. The house is split level and unsuitable for disability. Other: There is a large workshop at ground level with bicycles, wellies etc, walking/camping gear and games ( kubs/ boules /badminton net/football)

I'm a surgeon just taking early retirement from the NHS to spend more time managing our House in Chavanay and work part time for MSF. We are an Anglo-French family, the 4 children are now all adult and pursuing their own careers. We all adore our home in France which we have had for 10 years, and love sharing it with friends and family. We all love nature and the arts, and I'm planning to put in a kiln and wheel in the workshop there. When we can bear to tear ourselves away from the pool there we make jam from the fruits in season, bottle the local wine up the road ( there's a bottling device at the house), entertain friends and locals or go on a favourite walk.
judy mella purchased this Farmhouse in 2003
Why judy mella chose Chavanay
We were planning to relocate to France as we all adore France and have many links there. We found the house whilst looking for a property and instantly fell in love with it. In fact we returned to the UK for other reasons, but ended up buying the house anyway as it is just so charming and it became our base for France. It is a house that hugs everyone who goes there, and is cosy if alone but can soak up a big family crowd with ease. the terrace lends itself to a big table of guests and long lazy lunches or meals at night under the stars. The access to nature was very important for us too, bats, deer and birds that visit the garden, and the local walking in the Pilat mountain.
What makes this Farmhouse unique
Life in the house and pool terrace in particular are so relaxing... there's space for everyone whether they are playing games, painting or just relaxing. For the more active teenagers there are lots of things to do, and if there is one thing that makes it perfect as a holiday it's that there is something for everyone here whether its a digital obsessed teenager or a wine buff. As much as I love the rural life , I'd miss the city life if I didn't have access to it, and here Vienne with its cafes and markets and Roman culture is 20 minutes away , and Lyon only 35 minutes down the motorway
