About Alec Welham
We moved to Long Marston in late spring 2014 to pursue a self-sufficient lifestyle in the country. As avid gardeners we grow as much fruit and veg' as we can fit on the land. We have won many awards for our vegetables including the National Vegetable Society Championships at Harrogate in September 2015 and 2016. We also have hand- reared ducks, and chickens in our garden.
Alec Welham purchased this Apartment in 2014
Why Alec Welham chose York
The Cottage is set in beautiful rural surroundings in the heart of North Yorkshire just 6 miles from the City of York. Built on the historic site of the Battle of Marston Moor with rolling countryside in every direction. The main cottage originally dates back to 1644 and maintains the original charm of this period. Although the self-contained apartment was built as part of an extension centuries later, its features sympathetically reflect the style of the house.
What makes this Apartment unique
The property is ideally situated in the small village of Long Marston, 5 miles from the A1 M and the historic market town of Wetherby. York is accessible within a 15 minute drive, or a 20 minute bus journey will take you to York train station and the City Centre. Harrogate is just a 25 minute car journey, famous for its Victoria architecture, Roman baths, and Betty’s Tea Rooms. Knaresborough is also just a 15 minute car journey to explore the Castle, Old Mother Shiptons Cave, or take a row boat along the river. Leeds and its famous market is only 30 mins away by car.

Not what I expected
Nice people, area was nice but the property is in need of a updating and some overdue maintenance. The bed was uncomfortable as the springs kept digging in and making noises through the night. (Issue reported to the owner), but all in all we got what we paid for.
???? Strange! No one has had an issue with the Memory Foam Mattress before.
Not an excuse for all the blood from your partner then? on the duvet, mattress etc?.
All are replaced now anyway
Perfect for a short break
Nice accommodation, beautiful location, pleasant hosts, highly recommended
Thank you. We are very close to York and great for the Christmas markets. The accommodation suits couples and families and your dog!
Kind Regards Christine and Alec
Cosy but not so comfy
Cosy small upstairs flat with lovely views across farmland. Great value stay. Made to feel very welcome by owners. However sofas and bed not so comfy. Also unfortunate that village pub closed for meals for the nights we stayed which was a disappointment.
We were pleased you enjoyed your stay, the Memory Foam mattress is usually "very comfortable" for most folk,
as are the sofas, one of which is brand new and plush .
The Sun Inn seems to change their serving times quite often, beyond our control
Quiet stay with beautiful views
Perfect country escape with a short drive into York town centre.
Owners were extremely friendly and helpful.
A lovely place
Our hosts were wonderfully helpful and the property is delightful would recommend to everyone
Delighted you and your dog had a great time! We are in a good position for York City centre or North York moors and Dales - So plenty of new areas for you both to explore. Hope to have you back soon.
