About Laurie, Property Owner/Manager
Moving back to this small town after years in England, Switzerland and Austria, I came to appreciate how magnificent the area is. We were fortunate enough to acquire this home when the market was at an all-time low so we feel priviledged to be able to offer it to you at a very affordable rate, that you too may come to appreciate the joys of a small town, so close to some of the most magnificent sights, experiences and adventures Maine and New England have to offer.
Laurie, Property Owner/Manager purchased this House in 2012
Why Laurie, Property Owner/Manager chose Bingham
Built in 1900, this historic home has housed multi-generation families, with kids coming and going, for as long as anyone can remember. In the heart of this small Maine town, this home itself has a heart. If you're looking for pristine accommodation, this isn't it. If you're looking for a comfortable, clean home with plenty of space for the kids to run and play, your friends to visit, or to gather together and plan your day's activities, this is it! It needs some updating, and we continue to do little projects each time we stay there ourselves, so if you can overlook the need for a fresh coat of paint over the original plaster walls, then we are sure you will have a wonderful, affordable vacation exploring and experiecing some of the best Maine has to offer, and come back to see us soon!

Big house on atv trail
Giant farmhouse. Not fancy but a great place for a larger group to go & stay comfortably together. Room for up to 6 trucks & trailers if they unload & push trailers along back & side of the driveway. It is an old House under renovation so dont expect theTaj Mahal . But it is clean & economical. If you are there to ride it should not matter. It is a quiet sleepy town so enjoy it! No wifi & Verizon gets enough service to call & text but internet was 1G. Spend a bit of time only semi connected. Atv trails were great & did not disappoint! Great to stay & play for a long weekend!
Nice location but pictures make it a lot nicer then what it really is
The kitchen cabinets were full of mice droppings and the down stairs bedroom had the carpet removed and the tack strips still on the floor. The furnace would wake the whole house up every time it cycled
I checked the house after your departure and discovered 2 mouse droppings in one drawer, that must have occurred after it was cleaned, thoroughly, by a professional cleaner. It is an old farmhouse and as such, there are mice. We do keep up on it but we will NEVER be able to say there will be no mouse droppings anywhere in the house. Having said that, there havent' been any for months so this must be a new little guy. We'll catch him, I can assure you of that!
Regards the pictures, they have not been modified in any way. It is what it is! And the listing says clearly it is undergoing some renovations, on this occassion, the downstairs hardwood floors have not yet been installed so there leather braided rug and plush runner put down to ensure the floors were clean and comfortable. The tack strips were only along the walls where nobody walks, and were removed from any area that would be walked on. Again, it is an old farmhouse and we are constantly updating one thing or another! When the new floor is down and the walls in that room are redone it will be stunning. In the meantime it is what it is and hence why the rate is so much lower than it would otherwise be. You get what you pay for! :)
I appreciate you taking the time to write the review, however I would like to point out, at no time did you contact me regards concerns over mice, renovations or any of the complaints you made in this review.
Regards the furnace, why on earth was it running at all?! It was late May/early June and should have been off, as the hot water is electric and furnace only runs heat... Hmm... I'm not surprised if it wasn't as quiet as it would have been had it been during the heating season. It's due a regular service, before the next heating season.
Well, it's unfortunate you did not appreciate our home away from home. Most of our guests do, and it seems the only ones who do not are those looking for a "bargain", or something more than what they are willing to pay for.
When the renovations are finished, the rate for this 5 bedroom home will be significantly more. In the meantime, if you're looking for affordable accommodation and willing to overlook the fact it is not pristine perfect... this home is for you. Otherwise, please book elsewhere.
All the best.
OUTSTANDING !!great Host and great area of Maine
We enjoyed our stay in this warm cozy farmhouse and look forward to our next adventure up to this area of Maine where there are so many options for outdoors to explore . Laurie is a wonderful host and very accommodating and hospitable, her home has comfortable beds , good working kitchen cozy wood stove and she answered any questions we had and stayed on top of any small issue that arose , Laurie and her family are very hospitable. We look forward to coming back .
Thank you so much Chris! It was a pleasure hosting your stay and we look forward to your return visit! Happy trails!
The place is big needs lots of work shower up stairs doesn't work microwave didn't work.Stairs in front need repair.Noisey from rt201 if your just there to sleep its okay.On the trails that's a plus I give it a 5 out of ten.
Hello Daniel, I’m very sorry you were dissatisfied. I had no call or communication from you that there was a problem with the microwave. It is brand new so if it wasn’t working I would certainly have liked to know. It lists that the UPSTAIRS shower isn’t working. The stairs were just repaired so again, communication would have been helpful. It also says it is not rural and is located in town. My apologies if you did not see that. For anyone reading this review... This is a 1900s farmhouse, in town. It is not 5 star hotel accommodation. It is a home away from home and is sincerely loved and appreciated by us as a family. I’m sorry you did not appreciate it as we do. Laurie
P.S. The microwave was in perfect working order... had you turned off the PowerSave mode :-)
Perfect place for a getaway in Maine
This is a great place to stay if you're looking for a laid back atmosphere with ample space for a large group. We had 8 guys up for a rafting trip in The Forks, and we all fit comfortably. The kitchen was a great size, the dining room table was vast and allowed us to all sit together and play cards or games, and there was plenty of parking. It's not a fancy, high-class establishment, but it wasn't supposed to be. Beds were comfy, and that's really all that matters! My only complaint, and this isn't really a big deal since we were there to get away, is that the VRBO site lists internet, but when I asked the owner about it, they said they'd removed it (it's their family vacation home, and they want to keep their kids off devices). Again, not a big issue, but we only had one person in our group with cell service if anyone got lost on the way. I would definitely book here again!
Very good place, in convenient location
Lots of room in good condition. Will stay again, but location is in the town of Bingham. Not on the water or the woods.
Not only the best Whitewater in New England... The best Hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, ATVing, boating, hiking, waterfalls... The best of all New England.
