About Mona Rishel-Shissler
My husband (Bryon) and I purchased the James Campbell Farm property in 1990 and spent many years restoring the original (1780's) log house as our home. Subsequently we have refurbished all of the farm buildings and added our "glamping" site at our son's favorite camping spot. We have planted 100's of trees (mostly native species), created vegetable, herb and flower gardens, replanted the orchard, developed fruit vines - red and black raspberries, and grapes as well as blueberries. In addition to raising much of what we eat we cut firewood on our sustainably managed forests -- Come and see how peace filled and 'green' country life can be!

Why Mona Rishel-Shissler chose Fort Hill
Bryon and I were excited to have a chance to share our homestead by purchasing the small wooded parcel next to us, rebuilding the cabin, repurposing the pavilion and creating a special place for couples to slow down and recharge. Over the last 12 years guests at our cottage (see: Vrbo 322410) and 6 years at our glamping site (see: Vrbo 498403) of given us 5 star reviews, we are happy to continue our efforts to make the "Woodland" Cottage a place our guests will love to visit again and again.
What makes this Cottage unique
This "woodland" cottage is 'tucked' into its very own 'special' spot beside a small stream, in the woods and surrounded by over 800 acres of undeveloped land on our side of Fort Hill Road. (This property is owned and posted by Highlands Land Assoc. LLC) There are 2 cabins on these acres but they are more than a 1/2 mile down Fort Hill Road and the cottage itself feels very private. There are many types of bird feeders that attract a variety of birds. Flowerbeds attract butterflies. On any given day you might see woodcock, ruffed grouse, wild turkey and white-tailed deer. If you are lucky you might hear a great horned owl, screech owl, or a coyote. The view from deck is forests and mountains as far as the eye can see.

Awesome as usual!!
Nice property. The house was clean and comfortable. We loved all the windows and watching the birds at the feeders. The fireplace was warm and comfortable, which made it a great place to sit down and read. The house is close to the road, but the owners have done a nice job of blocking everything out with a tall wooden wall. In addition I can only recall seeing a handful of cars drive by during our stay. We'd definitely stay here again.
Peaceful, Clean, and Beautiful
This was my 3rd time at the house, 4th time at Campbell's Farm. It is a beautiful, clean, well appointed space. We watched birds at the feeders (always fascinating), hiked around the farm, and hit a couple other trails during our stay. It is the perfect place to stay for a good recharging of the soul. I'll be back in the springtime!
Quiet and peaceful
Great property! Clean and cozy!
My girlfriend and I loved this little house in the woods. It was absolutely the perfect place to spend an autumn weekend. Mona and Bryan (property owners) were so kind and they have put plenty of TLC into this house to make it a wonderful place to stay. The house has plenty of room for two people, yet still feel cozy. The amenities provided are perfect. As odd as this might sound, we didn't even mind being "disconnected" from the world for most of the time we were there. Thank you Mona and Bryan for making this secluded piece of heaven available. We will certainly cherish our memories of our weekend getaway.
As always, the properties at Campbell Farm never disappoint. If you want a truely relaxing, private, tranquil, and pure nature infused experience, then these properties are where you want to stay! The location is very clean and well appointed and perfectly located with in close driving distance to many great local attractions and the vast array of native wildlife all around is awesome. Many thanks to the owners once again. Until next time.
"Until next time." It is wonderful to not only have guest enjoy the property but that they enjoy the cottage and the area here that they come and enjoy again and again. And, each season holds something special *: - )
The woodland cottage is a mile from PA State Game Land and 6 miles from Forbes State Forest. The Fort Hill trailhead of the Great Allegheny passage is approx. 2.5 miles - near a bridge that crosses the Casselman River. Aprrox. 2 miles is McClintock Run - a high quality stocked trout stream.
