Perfect long weekend getaway for me and my wife and dog. Just rustic enough, but still with wifi and hot water. Such a nice quiet pond and a wonderful dock and front yard to enjoy it on. Will certainly come back when we can.
Lovely pond. Loved hearing the loons. Rainy day with screened in porch was wonderful
Smooth and uncomplicated
Lovely and peaceful cabin
My family of 5 (with kids aged 10, 8, & 4) had a wonderful stay. We wanted a quiet and peaceful stay within an hour of Bar Harbor and we were very happy with this choice. The owners were very responsive and gave us local tips. The cabin was more primitive than I fully understood - the inside toilet is in a closet with no door, the outside shower and toilet also has no door (just a full length curtain), and several of the window screens on the porch had holes (bring lots of bug spray). Having said that, the kids loved playing on the dock, canoeing, and jumping off the floating dock and my wife and I loved reading a book on the porch and listening to our children’s laughter. I encourage everyone to experience this hidden gem.
Thanks so much for your positive response about your stay at our rental. It is a very special place and a real Maine camp with lots of options to have fun. It is close enough to Acadia National Park and everything there is to enjoy there! I see you didn’t use the outside fire pit or barbecue or canoe or little fishing boat that would have added to your camping experience. But we really appreciate all of your kind care of our place. The porch is a great place to read from our little library of books or bring your own. It overlooks the whole pond area to watch over the swimming, loons with babies, beaver, turtles, ducks etc. As for the two door screens that have shredded some on the bottom, we have repaired them. No need for spray. And the inside toilet is in the bedroom and you just need to shut the bedroom door. The shower with plenty of hot water is set deep inside the little room from the entrance and has a wall for privacy from the toilet and the curtain gives complete privacy. It’s adds to the camping experience.
This place has had 70 years of smiles and laughter to its credit! It’s contagious! Safe travels wherever life takes you! Glad you had a fun family experience. In Maine!!
Nesting loons, lapping lake at your feet, peaceful heaven!
Peaceful Lake Cabin
Rhonda was an excellent communicator. The property was just as listed. We thoroughly enjoyed the canoe and loon watching.
I started my Maine vacation looking for a cabin by Arcadia park. This place popped up and it looked perfect. It ended up being much further away from Arcadia which caused us to re plan our events. Ok, not so bad. When we were driving to Maine my husband asks me if it has a bathroom. "Of course", I say. I know I read something about a bathroom and than I tell him they have a outside shower. I'm still thinking there is a bathroom in the place and a outside shower (like my camper, how cute). So we walk in and my husband says "There is no bathroom". I had the phone in my hand ready to walk out. Than I hear him say, "wait, there is a toilet". I'm now thinking, can I handle this (I am very much a city girl transplanted in upstate NY). So I'm at this cabin with my 2 kids and dog and where am I going. So we decide to make the best of it. In the next 3 days , I fell in love. So peaceful, so private, actually this place is perfect. My dog ran around, didn't need a leash because their was nobody around. Let me mention the view. I have shots of the sun glistening on the water and the trees looked like they melted right into the pond. Breathtaking!. Loons every morning on the dock, until my dog chased them away. Charming, quaint. I did end up taking a shower in the outside shower, not so bad. I was able to walk half naked back to my secluded cabin. Because we had to drive to Arcadia, I was able to look at other cabins for rent closer to the park. Although cute, they were on top of each other. My dog would have had to stay on a leash. The kids wouldn't have had a dock to sit out and play on, or boats to test paddle. The kids even braved it and took a dip, which made the dog jump in. Memories were made!
Lakeside cottages in Maine are special!! Wish you had made a fire in the outside pitcand toasted marshmallow and made s'mores with chocolate. That would have topped the camping experience!! We want to add another bedroom and put a complete bathroom inside the cottage in time, collecting rent funds is getting us there. Glad you enjoyed ACADIA National Park!! It is worth the 45 minute drive. Thanks for taking such good care of our place and we hope you will see you again!
Safe travels wherever you go!
Best, Rhonda and Cathi
