Inner city living at its best - close to all the things you want to do in Sydney
Hi - I'm Marian and with my husband Ken we invite guests to stay at our spacious well equipped inner city apartment. We have lived in Sydney for most of our lives and very much enjoy its beauty and vibrancy. We love to travel ourselves and understand how important it is to find a home away from home. For this reason we have set up our place as we would love it and hope you do too.
Why Marian chose Darlinghurst
We purchased the property and lived there for five years while Ken commuted from Brisbane to work in Sydney. When he transferred to Brisbane full time we held on to it to provide us with a base for our frequent visits and placed it on this platform.
What makes this Apartment unique

The place was excellent. Very clean and comfortable. It has everything a traveler needs. Coffee maker, microwave and laundry. Location was great and Sydney is a must see city.
Very pleased we could provide you with an excellent place to spend some time in Sydney. Happy travels and best wishes! Marian and Ken
You couldn’t find a better place to stay
From the very first contact to the end of our stay there was nothing to fault about the experience. Marian could not have been more helpful. We arrived from the US at 9 am and Marian made sure we could check in immediately and go directly to her wonderful apartment in Darlinghurst. No issues getting the keys. Everything you need is in the apartment. My partner and I walked everywhere. The location is a perfect home base to explore Sydney. Excellent and affordable restaurants are steps away. Oxford street and all it has to offer are near enough to be easily accessible and far enough that the area around the apartment feels very Neighbourly. We ate lunch and breakfast in the apartment and supermarkets both regular and organic are close at hand. Yes, there is street noise from the buses but you are in the heart of Sydney, a city that makes public transportation easy and accessible. We had no problem sleeping (the bed is very comfortable). Use ear plugs or white noise like many a city dweller and you’ll be absolutely fine. All in all an absolute joy of a stay. Thank you Marian.
We are very glad you both enjoyed your stay and were able to soak up the vibrancy and texture that is Darlinghurst, Andy! We would be very happy to welcome you back anytime. Best, Marian
Well equipped near CBD apartment
The host communicated very well and no problems..... she also allowed a late check out as their was no guest due that day. Parking at the complex is secure and easy. The complex gym is adequate and has a good sauna and steam room. Unfortunately the pool heater is turned off for the winter beginning the day we arrived May 1. The apartment is very well equipped and functional. Stove, gas cooktop, microwave and fridge are all excellent quality. Everything was cleaned. All essential supplies and many additional cooking and cleaning supplies were provided. The decor and general layout of the apartment is good. Oxford Street and the Cross are a short stroll away and circular quay, Darling Harbour and China town a 30 minute walk or 10 minute bus ride. The apartment is a great base for exploring Sydney. The internet worked well. Things to be aware of are the road noise is very loud from about 5.30am (think sleeping on the road!) as many others have mentioned, the bed is quite low and a little on the soft side (just a personal taste thing), the tv is quite small and no DVD player. Lighting in the bathroom is quite dim for shaving and make up. Towels and linen are household quality but not 4 or 5 star hotel quality. The carpets have seen better days. I stay in many apartments throughout Australia and Europe each year and would probably rate it about 8.7 out of 10. Sydney is expensive and this apartment is reasonably priced in comparison to many others. I would recommend it ..... we stayed 2 weeks and enjoyed our stay. However, I have tried to also give you (the reader) a full understanding of what to expect giving both the positives and negatives (from my perspective). We are a professional couple.
Thanks for your through and informative review, Steve and Jiying! We are pleased you enjoyed your stay with us.
As with any dwelling there are some things we have control over and some things we haven’t.
We have been working with an interior designer over the last couple of months to refresh our unit and have blocked out bookings after your stay to implement her recommendations. There is new carpet being laid this week and a new colour scheme with co-ordinated doona covers and new towels. If your break was in early June things would have looked considerably different.
Increasingly the ‘smart’ TV is being used by our guests to connect through our high speed internet to their own streaming accounts but we will have a talk to our designer about its size and DVD options. We will also have a chat to her about the bed.
The downside of being in walking/short bus ride proximity to all that the centre of Sydney has to offer is the usual ambient noise of the inner-city. Unfortunately we are not in a position to control that. Times are, however, changing. The main culprits, the buses, are transitioning to the quieter electric variety. Trials have commenced in some inner city areas – hopefully they will be available in our area soon.
Thanks again for your review,
Marian and Ken
Wonderful Darlinghurst bolt hole!
I highly recommend this apartment in the landmark Republic building. From the friendly concierge to the well appointed apartment and generously stocked pantry, including an honesty system with an excellent wine selection. Check in was seamless. The location is excellent, well served by public transport, walking distance to Circular Quay.Numerous cafes, restuarants all within an easy walk. I did not want to leave! Thanks Marian

Perfectly located, clean and complete!
My husband and I (both in our mid-60s) spent 6 comfortable nights in Republic 2 prior which departed from Sydney. We found everything to be just delightful, and as others have commented, the location could not be better! The good news (and the not so good) is the bus stops right outside the building, as it will get you to Hyde Park easily for connections to Circular Quay and other sights. Bring your earplugs for sleeping in as the buses start passing by about 6 am. We purchased Opal transport cards at the airport convenience store upon arrival in Sydney from LA, loaded $20 AU on each and still had $5 left after a week! Planned our major use on Sunday for all the ferry trips (after walking across the Sydney Harbor Bridge) when the cap on daily use is just $2.60. All the bus maps and schedules are only online, so do download them. We had planned to stay another day in Sydney at the tail end of the cruise, so kept the cards and used them to take a local bus #209 from our hotel near the domestic terminal back and forth without the hefty metro fee.
The apt. is a 10- minute walk to Stanley Street in the direction of Hyde Park, where we were entertained several evenings with the variety of restaurants - taking home leftovers to heat up later. Hyde Park is just 5 minutes beyond that street and we accessed Free Tours Sydney from that location (they offer a bus tour and walking tour that were great). Booked a day tour of the Blue Mountains online with a group that picked up at a hotel just 15 minute walk in the other direction.
Marian was so terrific to work with, sending us instructions and answers to questions promptly if needed. She worked with us on the access times, which we really appreciated having arrived in country at 7 am. Having the full array of appliances (washer and dryer, microwave, gas burner stove, etc.) at our disposal was wonderful and we used the building's small gym once during our stay. The main entrance to the apt is on the top floor of the unit, where the bedroom and bath are located, which made it so easy for arrival and departure. Not having to lug our heavy suitcases up the stairs was a godsend!
Everything was clean and functional, and the front desk building maintenance folks were welcoming and helpful. A 10 minute walk up the hill to Metro Woolworth's grocery store and a stop at the bottle store on the way back set us up for the week in the basic grocery items.
Whole heartedly recommend this unit to anyone!
