Great Ocean View!
We loved our stay.
It would get 5 stars just for the view and peaceful setting.
I would give it 6 stars for no check out chores.
Some places have a lengthy check out list.
We spent our last hour relaxing and looking at the ocean!
TreeBones Resort is close and has excellent food.
I enjoyed staying off grid.
Thank you Ana for a Wonderful 22nd anniversary.
This was a fabulous place to stay.
The owner was so nice, informative, and replied to emails promptly! Would definitely stay there again.
Heavenly and Magical
If you are looking for privacy, beauty, nature, and peace, this is your spot. Absolutely stunning. Ana is such a warm and caring Host. The property is incredible, with views of the ocean as far as the eye can see. What a gorgeous home. We can't wait to book our next stay.
The house and property are better than the beautiful pictures. It is well equipped and comfortable both inside and outside.
The location is so beautiful it is difficult to put into words. You will wake up every morning in awe of the view and what the area has to offer. However, it is watching the sunset each night from this gorgeous and secluded location that will leave you amazed. It is a magnificent place to stay and my wife and I had a truly memorable and wonderful holiday.
Secluded diamond nestled on the cliffs above the Big Sur coast with a warm and wonderful owner, Ana
The Stone House is a phenomenal property. Its owner, Ana, is a gem.
The Stone House's position above the cliffs on the Big Sur coast is spectacular: It is hidden from the world, yet the vistas of the water from its perch are expansive and sweeping. We woke up each morning to take our coffee at one of the many patios, and to contemplate the light on the water and the retreat of the fog. In the afternoons, we practiced yoga and watched spouting whales from the patio. In the evening, we gathered near the stone bathing tub to toast the sun dropping into the surf. We ate dinners en plein air with the company of music emanating from the impressive music collection in the library. At night, with an inky sky hosting the swath of the milky way and a billion stars, we stargazed.
The building is expertly and ingeniously constructed to be off the grid -- providing every convenience via a solar array (with back-up generators) and a private, clear water spring. The owner/architect thought of everything ... so that there is privacy, light, warmth, and comfort. (Examples include the skylights, radiant floors, comfort controls in each of the three separate suites, and a fireplace.) The building is a series of three buildings: the first has a kitchen, dining area, bedroom and bathroom. The second has a library/family room (with a mind blowing collection of videos, CDs and vinyl -- as well as an impressive collection of books indicating a well-traveled and intelligent reader). The weather was gorgeous while we were there, but if anyone were ever to stay inside, he/she would have the joy of reading such a gem of a collection. There is a a 1/2 bath connected to the library, and then an en suite bedroom and bathroom. The final building hosts a third bedroom with a view that pours out over the slope and across the ocean -- no reason to get up in the morning! -- and another bathroom. The grounds expand for 40 acres... with easy access to hiking trails, and the beach is but 1.2 miles away. The Stone House is perfection -- locale, spirit, comfort, and opportunity. As phenomenal as the place is, Ana (the co-owner) was a highlight. She provided us with a flower bouquet, fresh lettuce, and herbs from her garden, as well as a bottle of wine upon arrival. She explained things clearly, and then left us in complete privacy. She was available via phone or email, but we didn't need anything! Ana is generous, kind, thorough, and professional. We'll be back!
Owners do not disclose that they live 30 feet right above the house.
I want complete privacy when I book a VRBO and that is why I am fine paying a deposit to get that privacy. If I would not have asked the owner once we were there and noticed she didn't have a car she would not have disclosed that she literally lives 30 feet away. She walks up a trail right behind the house, hidden by bushes. If you want true privacy this is not the place for you. The owner walked in when it was completely dark out, unannounced and my daughter had just stepped out of the shower. This house is in a remote location that no-one should be on the property, so it was very alarming to have someone just walk in after being told how private the house was. Any issues the owner had could have been discussed through email (the way she said was preferred and the way we had been communicating and already knew we had a fast response time) or a phone call. No excuses whatsoever for "Ana" to walk in at 9pm unannounced, unprofessional. I read reviews before booking and I was very surprised no one mentioned that they live above you so close on the property. This is something travelers who value privacy like to know. Maybe no one was aware because it doesn't say in the description and her walking away going up the little trail gives the illusion she is leaving but she is not.
This person booked for two people and checked in with two people.
When I met her at check-in and explained the house systems to her she made no mention of additional guests. When she arrived she mentioned a car parked on Highway 1 near our first entrance gate. After going to check on that and returning to property later I noticed extra guests on the patio. She later told us she had gone out and retrieved these three additional people from a small commercial area a few miles from the property.
In order to clarify the number of guests, I met her at the house in the kitchen in daylight at 7 PM, not 9 PM, as she seems to have mis-remembered in her review. I don’t understand the reference to her daughter being in the kitchen following her shower or how that would be me intruding on her privacy. Her claims about the property are as odd and inexplicable as her allusions that anyone intruded on her family’s privacy.
Failing at other attempts at misplaced retribution she hopes to cast a shadow on what we most value, the privacy of guests at the property.
Although the cost for extra guests is clearly stated in the rental rates and the terms of agreement she clicked online in booking, she was clearly upset she would have to pay for the additional undeclared people.
She confirmed she wanted to leave the following day because she didn’t want to pay for additional guests. Although she had booked for two nights, we were generous and sensitive to her concerns and offered to forgo the required payment for last-minute cancellation if she wished to stay one only night. This is a significant cost and one we cannot recover.
Although we have communicated with her in every instance with understanding and the utmost civility she seems very motivated to distort reality in order to somehow blame or injure us. Purposeful distortion driven by misplaced anger is a sad thing.
Although it is a very rare occurrence in our experience, we trust you can recognize it in this instance. You will have to compare the other fifty-eight grateful reviews from our guests with this one in order to confirm how much we value our guests and respect their privacy above all else.
