Located in the Big Cottonwood Canyon, Solitude Mountain Resort is a family-oriented ski resort with numerous beginner and intermediate runs. The resort has 485 hectares of skiable terrain with 80 runs and a 760-metre vertical. The Solitude Nordic Center offers snowshoeing, skating, and cross-country skiing on 13 trails rated from easy to moderately difficult. You can also book instructors to learn cross-country skiing.

Alta Ski Area is one of the oldest ski resorts in the United States and receives abundant natural snowfall. It boasts a 2,600-metre elevation, a 774-metre vertical, and 1,057 hectares of skiable terrain. Catering to skiers of all ages, the Alta Ski Area has 116 runs with most featuring advanced and expert terrain, but you’ll find numerous beginner and intermediate runs as well.

Snowbird for year-round outdoor activities

Located in the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest, Snowbird is a year-round outdoor resort that offers skiing and snowboarding in Little Cottonwood Canyon. Owned by actor Robert Redford, the Sundance Resort is also home to the independent Sundance Film Festival and the Sundance Institute. The resort has 2,954 hectares of skiable terrain on its own with 324 runs for beginner, intermediate, and advanced skiers and boarders. It also has 8 peaks and 9 bowls, a superpipe, a mini pipe, 6 natural halfpipes, and 7 terrain parks catering to progressive levels of freestyle skiing and snowboarding.

Powder Mountain for night skiing

One of the largest resorts in North America, Powder Mountain in Eden has 154 trails spanning 3,425 hectares of skiable terrain and a 672-metre vertical. You’ll also find 2 terrain parks for freestyle skiing and snowboarding and several runs that are available for night skiing. Another exciting feature of Powder Mountain is the snowcat rides and tours that reach a top elevation of 2,872 metres.

Snowbasin Resort for beginner-friendly amenities

Located in the Wasatch Range, Snowbasin Resort is a premier ski resort on Mount Ogden. It features 1,214 hectares of skiable terrain with a 902-metre vertical and 104 runs divided between beginner, intermediate, and advanced/expert areas. The resort also has 3 terrain parks for freestyling. The Crazy Kat is a beginner-friendly park with starter jumps and rails, while Coyote offers intermediate and progressive jibs. Experienced freestyle skiers and snowboarders can try tricks in the Apex Park. You’ll also find 26 kilometres of Nordic trails.
