Welcome to the Vrbo® Family Holiday Insider report, a unique look at the travel hopes and plans of families in the UK for 2022. This year we have also included research into the concerns raised by parents who are holidaying with a completely new type of traveller, those born during the Covid-19 pandemic who have spent much of their first two years confined to their own home. 

There is no questioning the fact that 2021 was another unpredictable year for travel with the emergence of new variants and the seemingly constant changes to travel restrictions dashing the hopes of many families. The travel industry has had to adapt by introducing new more flexible cancellation policies and contact-free services, while travellers have become adept at making last-minute alternations to their plans. The successful vaccination programme has given us all hope that the end may be in sight and a realisation that a new norm may be with us to stay.  

Holidays have become even more important during these difficult times. They are not just about the anticipation and excitement of travelling to new places and dreams of discovery – they are also valued as a chance to relax and recharge, to have a break from everyday life and to spend more quality time with their nearest and dearest, to help refresh and strengthen family bonds. 

This report takes the temperature of UK families, to delve a little deeper into their thoughts, ideas and goals and see what is on the horizon for 2022. Happy reading.
