About Bridget Hemmant
John is the third generation of a Norfolk farming family, who has diversified his land to grow grapes. With his background in Chemistry and knowledge gleaned from making wine for almost twenty years John now specialises in sparkling wines but also makes a still white and a Rosé. His wife Bridget is learning more about wines and wine making. She is a consultant eye surgeon working in the NHS, and also at the University of East Anglia Medical school in curriculum development and moonlights after hours marketing the Chet vineyard. As well as having an interest in wine the family enjoys music. John sings tenor and plays the piano. Bridget plays the violin in a local quartet and also plays piano. Ruby who is 12 plays the flute and piano. John has a lovely Springer Brittany spaniel cross called Rosie. She is very good at chasing rabbits and deer away from the vineyard where they tend to nibble young shoots on the vines. There is an amazing diversity of flora and fauna on the adjacent vineyard. John feels a real sense of place and stewardship of the land. He uses sustainable practices on his vineyard and minimises the use of chemicals on his vines in order to nurture the permaculture that thrives amongst and beneath the vines.

Why Bridget Hemmant chose Norwich
This family property that has been in the Hemmant family for many years is the perfect place for your holiday away from it all. It can be whatever you want it to be; A vineyard escape, a quiet bolt hole away from the craziness of busy city life, a place to relax and unwind in the english countryside - which in good weather can seem like living in Provence!, a place for a small family get together catering for all ages, a base for exploring the Norfolk Broads and the Norfolk Coast line or Norwich itself, or a place for quiet contemplation whilst studying or working using the good Wifi connection.
What makes this cottage unique
The Vine house is a unique venue based on the award winning Chet Valley vineyard in South Norfolk which specialises in making sparkling wines. It is an excellent destination for a family celebration, birthday treat or just to get away from the hum drum of every day life. Come at harvest time at the end of September or beginning of October in order to experience the vendage and learn more about wine making and viticulture.
