About this property

Lovely little cottage in the heart of the New Forest National Park

The Garden Cottage at Great Wells is located in one of the finest spots in the New Forest National Park. Ideal for romantic getaways but also can take a baby cot if required! Tranquil position with a private area of pebbled patio and garden with outdoor seating and bbq for the summer months. The Garden Cottage forms the west wing of Great Wells House and has it's own private entrance and is like a semi detached little cottage with it's own pathway and garden. You can walk directly on to the open forest and see the wild New Forest ponies walking past the drive. It is a short walk to local pubs with great food, tea rooms and shops in the village or a 2 minute car ride. Bike hire is also available in the village or you can bring your own and store them in the barn. There is even a beauticians along the lane, if you fancy a massage or a facial!
On the ground floor you will find a little sitting room with television, comfy chairs and dining table. There is a mini kitchen located behind cupboard doors and a large granite topped dresser with all of your kitchen requisites, but due to size not ideal for gourmet cooks but great for breakfasts, small meals and snacks. There is an integrated fridge, 2 ring hob, microwave, sink/drainer and combi oven. The bathroom has a double ended bath with hand shower only (no stand up shower I am afraid), loo, bidet and vanity basin. There is also a cloakroom with additional loo and small basin and hooks for coats. The double bedroom with 6' kingsize bed (can convert for longer bookings to 3' twins) is upstairs and there is room for a travel cot (supplied if you don't want to bring your own). Outside the bedroom is a little reading corner with table and comfy Victorian armchair.
Plenty of room for private parking in the stable yard where you can see our horses and give Donni and Sid a carrot but check we are around first!
We have lived here for over 30 years and love the area and wildlife, it really is one of the most unique places in England!

Just what we needed, private but not too far for main roads, clean and with all you need.
This is a well appointed one bedroom small cottage. It has all you need for two and run by nice people who made us very welcome,. we would use it again.

This is my third property in Burley as originally moved here in the early 80's, so you can see it is my favourite place to be! I am a competitive dressage rider and have two horses who live here with us. My husband and I also love sailing, walking the dogs and cycling around the beautiful Forest. We also enjoy the choice of wonderful food, especially seafood that this area offers with wonderful cafes and restaurants close by. A wonderful time to be in the Forest is May and June when all of the foals are being born but you do have to be very careful driving on the lanes as they dash across in front of you without any warning, likewise with all of the other wildlife such as the many deer. We have Fallow, Red and Roe in this area plus too many other species of wildlife to list! We spotted a rare white tailed Eagle on our last walk! My second favourite place is the Lake District but the Forest wins every time! We are very lucky to live in this wonderful part of England in such treasured surroundings!

Why they chose this property

My Grandparents, who lived in Salisbury, always took me on picnics to see the New Forest Ponies when I was a tiny tot and spent holidays with them back in the 50's and 60's and I think that is why I grew up with a great love of horses! I knew this was the place I wanted to live as soon as it became possible. Bye bye London, never want to return there, the Forest is the best place on earth to live, well, apart from Barbados, but you would eventually find it too hot there for all of the year! I love the diversity of our weather conditions and it is in the most wonderful part of England where the wild ponies roam free and you can walk on a different route every day! You don't need the car!

What makes this property unique

Position, position, position! The three reasons why you buy a property and the only one you cannot make changes too! We do live in a heavenly spot and find it very difficult to find anywhere better than this when we go away on our hols. Surrounded by beautiful countryside of varying nature and amazing wildlife and with the seaside only a 10 minute drive away if you fancy a different dog walk or a quick dip on a summers evening! Only a 20 minute trip to Bournemouth or Southampton if you need a theatre/cinema fix or larger shops! London is only just over an hour and a half away if you really feel the need! I very rarely do as there is so much around here to see and do!
