My family and I travel a lot and spend time between France and Australia. I am into jazz and studied voice and composition in Paris for many years. We love art , antique hunting and French food and wine (my favourite are the light reds from nearby Irancy). For food lovers the farmers markets at surrounding towns are a joy to explore and are the best places to find local delicacies. We have 2 children, a boy who loves history and a little girl who is pony mad and there's plenty of both in the surrounding towns and villages here! As a host the most important thing for me is that guests find the cottage immaculately clean with crisp sheets and fluffy towels. I make sure the home is prepared for your arrival so you can relax and start enjoying your stay immediately. I have supplied information with ideas of things to see and do nearby and have included plenty of practical hints too such as opening times for boulangeries, supermarkets, chemist etc. There are movies and games for kids of all ages on the TV which is great when they need some quiet, down time at home. Security is important for me and the backyard is enclosed so once you've arrived, and have locked the front door, kids can play happily while parents relax. When you book, I send a PDF with helpful info re getting to the cottage including one or two tourist attractions you can visit en route. Desjardins Cottage is situated in such a beautiful part of Burgundy. We are delighted to share the cottage with visitors and strive to make sure you're time in our home is a memorable one!
Why chose Escamps
Desjardins is the perfect holiday location when visiting all the wonderful attractions nearby including the great 11thC Abbey of Vezelay, the wineries of Chablis and the impressive cathedral town of Auxerre. For the kids, visit Guedelon, a medieval style castle under construction, and just a short drive away. St Fargeau is a pretty castle and in the warmer months there are grand evening performances with knights on horseback re-enacting historical events such as Joan of Arc’s epic battles across the country with dancing and fireworks thrown in. You can make a short trip to Noyers, listed in the top 100 most beautiful villages in France. This little place reminds me of a Van Gogh painting with its wonky ancient houses and pretty surrounds. Take a picnic lunch or go cycling along the banks of the Yonne River and at the end of the day you can return to Desjardins Cottage, take a monsoon shower and relax with a glass of wine from the nearby villages of Irancy or Chablis while the kids play safely in the secure, fenced in yard. The beds are super comfy and you'll wake up restored for a new day of exploring!
What makes this cottage unique
Desjardins Cottage is just 2 hours drive from Paris. Stop off en route to visit the royal chateau of Fontainebleau or my favourite castle... Vaux le Vicomte. Spring is a stunning time of the year with early cherry blossoms and all the antique and "empty the attic" markets happening each weekend. Summer is stunning, warm and humid. Autumn sees some of the best weather and Winter is a delight with Christmas markets and wonderful sessional market fare!
