About Helen Young
I am a retired hospitality professional and was the owner and manager of a 28 room luxury inn. I have lots of experience of travel and enjoy making a great experience for other travellers. I am assisted by Susan who will be your onsite contact. Susan lives very nearby and is a long time resident of the area: in short a great resource.
Helen Young purchased this Cottage in 1998
Why Helen Young chose Barnard Castle
My parents have owned this property for years and operated it as a five star B and B before retiring. We have kept it in the family because it is a spectacular setting and a lovely building that is just the right size for a private bolthole. Not to mention the wonderful mix of privacy with good walking accessibility to a charming market town. It is hard to match the loveliness of Teesdale!
What makes this Cottage unique
The great old stone walls throughout add a lovely authenticity to River Run Cottage. That and updated systems that ensure coziness, a great hot bath and good internet connections. We like our comforts! The river is literally just outside the kitchen door and our new conservatory means you can enjoy it in all seasons. The sound is simply one of the most relaxing imaginable. It is also fun to watch the kayakers tumble over the falls or fly fishermen angling for a catch. BTW we have a great resource for learning fly fishing if you are intrigued: Stuart is a great teacher and great character. We have televisions both up and downstairs as well as a wood burner on each floor. While we are a five minute walk to town through a lovely old churchyard and on a very well frequented regional walking trail called The Teesdale Way, the cottage turns its back onto the lane and so it feels very private.
