Ask a questionAbout Patricia or James
Late evening some 20 years ago while sailing the South Coast of France I had the pleasure of dropping anchor at the head of the Rade du Villefanche. As the lights came on around the bay it was as if one had entered a vast amphitheatre - truly magic. Returning a few years later we could not resist the temptation of purchasing just one of those spectacular lights so that we are now able to enjoy in a more leisurely way the reverse sight of all the little yachts bobbing away in the harbour below. I (Jim, writing this) am a retired professor of engineering (well not really, all that has changed is the salary cheques have stopped!) having spent the greater part of my career at University College London. Having grown up in New Zealand I came to the UK some 50 years ago to pursue what should have been a 2 possibly 3 years post-doctoral research fellowship at UCL. It was when my children were growing up that to stem the yearning to return to Aotearoa to see them experience the sort of outdoor childhood I had enjoyed we purchased a caravan on the S coast of England. There we accumulated a fleet of sailing boats of all shapes and sizes. Now that the children have long since moved on our fleet has vanished but we still enjoy sailing in our leisure time - although our modest little sailing yacht is now located in southern Calabria from where we can enjoy Sicily and the Aeloian islands - but it is a bit more difficult to reach! My wife Patricia is actually a Londoner - yes there are still a few - having spent her earliest years in Hampstead. She spent her professional life in the charity sector and prior to retirement was Resource Development Director at Marie Stopes, and played a major role in seeing what had been a network of Family Planning clinics in the UK become an international network of clinics dedicated to improving women and children health and education. We both enjoy travelling but also the delights of being with our now 13 grandchildren.
Why Patricia or James chose Villefranche-sur-Mer
Because of our grandparental roles we don't get down to Villefranche as much as we would like. So we have been pleased to be able to share our apartment and our love of this part of the world with so many guests over the past 15 years - many of whom have come back year after year. We think you will also enjoy the oportunity to share the wonderful outlooks over the Rade du Villefranche. The views from the apartment are really those of the classic Riviera scene,. with the tour coach buses travelling around the Moyenne Cornich (just above the apartment) stopping to allow sightseers an opportunity to take in the breathtaking beauty - usually with their cameras. But here is a chance for you to sit at your leisure and enjoy the same views over a cup coffee, a hot cup of tea or a cool glass of wine and a lovely home cooked meal. With marble floors throughout the apartment has a spacious feel and is easy to maintain. It has large sliding doors leading out onto the large terrace overlooking the sea and the attractive Cap Nice and Cap Ferrat. The apartment is within securely gated grounds with extensive and beautifully landscaped gardens. A dedicated garage in the basement is accessed by a lift leading direct to the apartment and additionally there are parking spaces available within the grounds.
What makes this Apartment unique
Villefranche is possibly one of the most charming villages in the area between Cannes and Monaco. It offers views to die for and is remote from any of the hustle and bustle of main roads making it a perfect place to enjoy a tranquility that is becoming increasly difficult to find - one can even hear the flashing light from the lighthouse on Cap Ferrat! The apartment is set In vast and well kept gardens (that incidentally make the service charges very high!) within securely gated grounds. Sitting on the terrace in the evenings you can take-in not just the array of twinkling lights but also the wonderful aromas of nearby pines, jasmin and other prolific plants in almost perfect peace and quiet.
