Spacious stone villa with views and private pool, walking distance to the beach
This fabulous stone house is south-facing with panoramic views from all 4 bedrooms, 3 outdoor terraces and balcony. It was built in the 18th century by a local sea captain and is very spacious (200sqm of internal space). Just 3 minutes walk from the sea down a little track, this is an ideal location for relaxation, water-sports and other outdoor activities. Medieval Korcula is just across the straits while beautiful Ston and Dubrovnik are easy day trips.

The views are stunning. The house is traditional & clean, with plenty of space & sun decks, lovely pool. extra bits like yoga matts beach towels. A welcome bottle of wine & wine & chocolates on departure were a very nice touch.
Beds changed half way through the week was a treat.
We had a couple of issues but the owner & house keeper were super fast to respond. Needs more shade & maybe a little tlc here & there but property has just changed hands so think this will happen.
It’s a bit off the beaten track, away from the crowds which is gorgeous for stary skies. very peaceful but lots of steep steps up to the property, in the heat is quite a challenge at times. You will need bikes or a car. To get to the super market to get water etc.
A lovely time was had here.
Thank you
Emma
We took the opportunity to have an late spring escape and chose The Captains House because of the views and facilities there. We were not disappointed. It is obvious the owners have gone to great lengths to make this a special place and have clearly very recently invested time in effort to make the Villa look and work perfectly. Thank you Matthew and Kerry for you help in planning our trip and we hope to return soon.
All was perfect and looks as amazing as on pictures. Just go for it!

Magnificent
Beautiful spacious old stone house with lots of terrace space for sitting outside. A lovely pool that was ample size for our family of 5 - including 3 grown up sons. Easy walking distance to a few restaurants, although nicer offerings to be had in Orebic, a short drive away. Lovely areas to swim in the sea within walking distance. Quite a steep climb from the car to the house and from the beach. Roads narrow, no hard shoulders and a bit scary! Collection and drop off of keys worked very smoothly, and the caretaker responded very quickly the one time we had a query. A most picturesque setting. Great watersports. We went on a day trip to Montenegro which was a big mistake as we queued at the border for an hour and a half in each direction, but there's plenty to do locally without traveling too far. We were fascinated to see some many beautiful houses in the vicinity in such disrepair and we would have loved some history of the house/area to check out our theories. A fabulous location for a break away from it all. We cannot recommend it highly enough!

Beautiful old house lovingly restored with stunning views
This is a beautiful house with plenty of space for a family vacation. the climb up the steps to the house is not suitable for anyone with walking difficulties or very elderly and struggle with heavy luggage but views from house and peaceful setting are worth it. Also need to take care coming up and down at night as limited lighting. House well equipped and welcome pack a lovely touch, local representative was a lovely lady and on hand no matter what you needed. Definitely need a car to explore area but some lovely restaurants and close to the beach. If you want a relaxing vacation this is an excellent location. A good 2 1/2 hour drive from Dubrovinik Airport and the road can be tricky but stunning scenery.

About the host
Hosted by Matthew Richardson
I live in England with my wife and 2 children. My wife and I both work, and spend many of our holidays, Summer and Winter, in Croatia, where we have made many friends and have really fallen in love with the country.
Why they chose this property
We bought the property because of its convenience to get to, with the increasing number of direct air links to the UK, and because of the stunning views. Also, as a 300 year old property, it's pretty unique.
What makes this property unique
We love the Viganj area because of its outstanding natural beauty, crystal clear sea and quality of food and wine which seems to get better and better each time we go back. It's also a particularly safe area which is important to us with two children.
The house is set up a hill, which affords incredible views. The house is set in a little hamlet of old houses which are being restored. There are little pathways between the villages that you can walk along.
