Notes
- Notes on accommodation: This characterful home is ideal for a couple wishing space and a romantic get-away, or for a large family seeking good comfort in a relaxed, homely style. It seems like a tardis - the home is cosy for 2, yet grows to accommodate many! We are a family of 6, and often have other families to stay, too. There's so much space! Also, the property has a lovely blend of the old (it's a converted School House) with the new (modern, new equipment everywhere), but most special of all is the location. With a mouth-dropping hill-top position, many of the rooms have awesome views out over vineyards and across the Dordogne plain. Off to one side is the beautiful old abbey, giving the place a special, timeless atmosphere. The interior design is not chic and sophisticated, but rather seeks to be comfortable, french and homely. We've worked to keep Ikea furniture to a minimum (although tempted here and there!) and have found pieces in local antique shops, brocantes and local markets. Outside: Private pool, 8m*4m, located in a picturesque courtyard just outside the kitchen (also can be accessed from the lane outside via double, electric gates) with a large, spacious new terrace. The pool terrace gives views out to the nearby ancient abbey and on beyond, to the Dordogne plains way below; yet due to the raised elevation, it is not overlooked. There's a large, covered cloister along one side of the pool and this makes for superb dining area. Garden furniture (luxurious chairs, loungers etc), BBQ. Stone stairs lead off the courtyard down to the main garden (also accessed by stairs within the gite). Front garden with roses and shrubs - catches the morning sun! The main garden has an older patio adjoining the house (with table and chairs - this is where lots of the relaxing, eating and wine-tasting goes on!), then drops gently away down the hillside, with a lawn and fruit trees leading into a more secluded wooded area where the children have their adventures. Utility Room: Across the courtyard is the Old School girls toilet - now converted to hold a washing machine and drying machine! Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: White towels and linen (mostly Egyptian cotton) included. Bring your own pool towels. Mid-holiday cleaning on request. Other: There's a covered cloister in the courtyard beside the pool. This is a large, shady area with table, chairs & lounge seating. An old classroom is in it's original state - this provides a great space for storage of bikes, garden chairs, firewood etc.

Ask a questionAbout Laurence Young
We live on the West Coast of Scotland among the mountains and beside the loch. It's a sensational location - but sometimes we find it a little wet and cold. The climate, culture and style of the south of France is compelling! As a family of 7 (youngest is 14 and oldest is 28), our French home needed to fulfill a wide range of criteria, and The Old School House hit the spot. - it's large and spacious, and seems to always expand to take more family and friends. - there is lots to explore, to do and to see right on the doorstep. jogging and cycling is fantastic - there is night life in towns, not too far away - the property has two old classrooms, yet to be refurbished (another project in the wings)!
Laurence Young purchased this villa in 2011
Why Laurence Young chose Pujols
Having spent some time holidaying in different locations around the South of France, we decided we would like a base of our own. The Gironde was our instinctive target: we love the rolling countryside and the beauty of the vineyards and the villages. It has a remote, unspoilt charm and is "real" - the whole area is deeply agricultural and the land is worked. The wide range of majestic wines are an attraction (there are remarkable bargains to be had), plus the fabulous local ingredients and good food all around. Importantly, it's also so easy to get to. A quick drive from Bordeaux airport with so many low-cost flights, and the option of Bergerac, too. Plus, public transport to the door if we want it. Simply a wonderful location!
What makes this villa unique
This is a very special location, and the pictures show how we are endlessly mesmerised by the views, the panoramas from the windows and the wonders created by this elevated position. It's also a great pleasure being in a home with age and character; there are many features of the Ancienne Ecole that remain and this building clearly played an important part in the village during the 1900's. Whilst the sensation is that the house sits amongst the vineyards, the village is just on the doorstep and being able to walk to the bakery is a fundamental part of each day. Then there is something magical about having the old Abbey next door, and waking to the gentle chimes of ancient bells . . . .
