About Esther Dodd
We are a married couple living in Manchester. We have 2 grown-up sons, our elder son is married and lives in Abu Dhabi, they have 2 children and our younger son lives in Manchester with his partner and 2 children. We have owned Mount Cottage for 12 years and for the first 5 years we kept it exclusively for personal use. After many requests from friends about the possibility of renting the cottage for holidays we decided to offer our delightful country retreat through Vrbo for others to enjoy as well.
Esther Dodd purchased this Cottage in 2008
Why Esther Dodd chose Lancaster
After owning a caravan for 5 years in this area, which we both love for its peaceful and relaxing effects, we decided to buy this cottage nearby so that we could reap the benefits throughout the whole year. Winter produces fantastic scenes with snow on the hills and frost on the hedgerows. The wild spring and summer flower displays along the hedgerows and in the fields are a joy and in autumn there are sloes, blackberries and rose hips aplenty to gather for gin and jam making. Walk a short distance uphill from the cottage and you can see the sea at Morecambe and the spectacular mountains of the Lake District. A rarely used bridleway runs past the cottages and into the field beyond and there are many public footpaths all round the area.
What makes this Cottage unique
The cottage is located 10 miles east of J34 of the M6, through delightful countryside. Lancaster is an easy 14 miles from the cottage and Lake Windermere is a scenic 45 minute drive. The cottage is 1 of 9 properties that were originally converted in 1987 from farm buildings and are now mostly permanent residences. 3 are let out to holiday makers. The cottages are set back from the road and are accessed via a driveway which ensures a quiet and relaxing atmosphere where only the sounds of wild birds and animals can be heard. As we spent all our weekends in the cottage for the first 5 years and now whenever it is vacant, we know the area very well and have many friends amongst the residents. It is a friendly, relaxing place to unwind and recharge your batteries.
