About Richard Starkey
Hi my name is Richard Starkey, based in the historic maritime city of Portsmouth, UK. I am also lucky enough to own Casa Naranja in Busot. Spain and want to invite you to share all the happy times we enjoy in this bright, modern house overlooking the mountains of Alicante province. Casa Naranja is of course available for you to rent only when I am not there, so sadly we are unlikely to meet. However I will gladly answer any questions by email before and during your stay and will also be very pleased to chat via Skype at an agreed time. I greatly enjoy travel, photography, local food and meeting new people. To welcome you to the house and help you with any questions during your holiday, I have found Sally who lives in the village and is a fountain of local knowledge!
Richard Starkey purchased this villa in 2011
Why Richard Starkey chose Busot
I dreamed for many years of owning a holiday home in Spain. I finally became able to start looking in October 2010 and met with estate agents to look at a list of over 30 possible properties, this was actually the first one that we saw, other villas and especially locations compared poorly as we worked through the list. A Norwegian family and I were unsure whether to buy this villa, in the end they bought the adjoining villa and have been excellent neighbours ever since! I have enjoyed many long visits with lots of friends to my second home of Casa Naranja but owning a property here carries many ongoing costs from maintaining the community pool to local and national taxes, hence my new venture to share the house with new visitors who will hopefully love it as much as I do :-)
What makes this villa unique
It is the magnificent view by day or night from the mountains right down to the sea at Alicante which strikes all my visitors, perhaps combined with a light and airy house that hopefully feels really welcoming. Soon visitors discover the attractive well maintained pool and then venture over to the nearby newer area of Busot village called El Carril with the sports centre, bars and other shops. Later they may climb up to the old village with a bigger choice of bars and restaurants as well as an information centre offering an improving range of local activities in the surrounding Sierra d'Alicante mountains. My visitors will find that the nearest larger town is El Campello, just 10 minutes drive away with a great waterfront area, wonderful beaches and a range of supermarkets and specialised shops. Try a delicious meal in the La Cova restaurant perched high above the marina with views out to sea or stroll through the archaeological site for thousands of years of history dating back to the original Iberian's. Back in Busot, take the road up the Golden Head mountain to admire the even more breathtaking views than from the villa and to visit the cave complex named after one of the formations that looks like a Candelabra! If you have a day, continue to drive inland, high over the spectacular mountain passes, reaching the amazing village of Guadalest and then descending back to the coast at Benidorm, You can also reach Benidorm, the artists town of Villajoyosa or the fine city of Alicante by easily parking for free in Campello and taking the frequent and comfortable coastal TRAM service. You might attend a grand festival, local fiesta or one of the many Moors and Christians events - highly recommended but beware of explosions during the battle re-enactments. Some of the best are in Mutxamel (another nearby town in September); in Campello in October and of course the superb Busot Moors and Christians a week after Easter every year. You will never be bored here!!
