Ask a questionAbout Sue Hamblen
Our love for historic homes and waterfront living led us to this charming house from the 1860's. We have recently downsized, leaving our 6 acre 1747 home in Northern Virginia after 30 wonderful years raising our family there. My husband and I both come from large families, and this house has served us well for gatherings on both sides - a tradition that we both cherish! Now that there are grandchildren, they often beg us to take them to the bay house for their fix of swimming, boating, fishing, crabbing, and tubing! Our annual family reunion at the Bay House is a highlight for all of my in-laws, my own children, nieces and nephews, grandchildren and now grand nieces and nephews! It's the perfect place to find time to quietly catch up with one or two family members, or to gather as a family for competitive games, laughs, fun and a lifetime of precious memories! Both of our extended families cherish the memories they have at the Bay House and look forward to many more years of reunions together!
Sue Hamblen purchased this House in 2000
Why Sue Hamblen chose Westover
Older homes have always attracted us and the beautiful waterfront setting of this house, combined with the charm of an 1800's era home, was irresistible to us and we jumped at the opportunity to purchase this unique property. Lovingly restored, the home today serves as a wonderful location for family reunions, group gatherings, weddings (our daughters this August will be the first wedding at the house in many years!), and an opportunity to connect with nature! Many of our own house guests have described the place as magical, restful, peaceful, and an opportunity to recharge!
What makes this House unique
We searched over 200 properties before we selected this (at the time) falling down home! Although plaster was falling off the walls, and the house had been seriously neglected for many years, we both immediately spotted a diamond in the rough. The waterfront view is truly unrivaled, and the opportunity to step out the front porch and have your toes in the water in minutes was incredible. We had the house completely renovated, from top to bottom, and the result is a very comfortable, modern, and peaceful retreat! Water views from every room will appeal to all.
