La Tinaja is a stylish town house in the beautiful village of Gaucin, one of the prettiest villages in the south of Spain. The spacious house situated in a traffic free street on the southern edge of the village, was converted from a 17th century olive mill. It is carefully and traditionally restored and has lots of character, with beamed ceilings, terracotta tiled floors and hand glazed local tiles. From the bedroom terrace and the roof terrace you have lovely views of Gaucin, the ruins of a 10th century Moorish castle, the valley of the river Genal and beyond the Rock of Gibraltar, the Mediterranean and Morocco. Ground floor: sitting room with wood burning stove, dining area and kitchen, leading to a patio with a small plunge pool. First floor: two bedrooms, one double with balcony, one twin with en-suite bathrooms. Roof terrace with lovely views. The house is very airy and kept cool in the summer months with it’s very old thick walls and if it’s too hot for you a dip in the plunge pool with a glass of Cava always does the trick. In the cooler winter months the wood burning stove and panel heaters keep the house very warm, great after a day out walking in the surrounding countryside and neighbouring Pueblos Blancos.
The house is only a few minutes walk away from local shops, tapas bars, restaurants (ranging from wholesome cooking to sophisticated dinning) and the excellent municipal swimming pool and tennis court.
It is also an ideal base for day trips to towns like Ronda, Jerez, Cádiz and Sevilla. There are many other delightful small white villages (pueblos blancos) to explore in the area, Mediterranean beaches are half an hour's drive away and Gibraltar one hour drive (remember your passport). Tarifa on the Atlantic coast with its fine white sand and famous wind surfing is one and a half hours drive away. For hill walkers and bird watchers there are many organized walks and all sorts of birdlife in and around Gaucin.
