Amazing stay on Somes Sound
My wife and I really enjoyed our time in the Hall Quarry neighborhood, with excellent views of Somes Sound, Norumbega and Sargeant Mtns., and a well-cared for home that was clean and inviting. Proximity to both sides of the island is ideal.
Property Managers were very helpful every step of the way, and extremely thoughtful.
This is an incredible location, with a lot of history as part of a company (or companies) town dating back to the mid-to-late 1800s. The house is small and comfortable, and from another era--with a beautiful soapstone kitchen sink and antique flourishes throughout. This is NOT for people who prefer the modern touch.
Minor downsides that will not affect every renter the same way: It's not completely private, as there is a driveway that runs through the middle of the property of a full-time local resident. Also: first floor bathroom can be a challenging get-to in the middle of the night, as all bedrooms are on the 2nd floor. All this being said, we would rent here again, because of the great views and access to all hiking.
Many thanks to the owner and property managers for all that you did to make our stay enjoyable!
This is the absolute quintessential beautiful Maine Cottage. Appointed with the spirit of the late 1800's when the cottage was built, but with all the modern comforts you could want. We had an absolutely blissful stay, and the view is so peaceful and beautiful, you will never want to leave. I know we didn't want to leave!
My wife and I were privileged to stay at Heavenly Days Cottage for two heavenly weeks. It was just wonderful. The cottage is very clean, tidy and well-kept, and the owner is nearby and very courteous - he stopped by one day to briefly say hi. The kitchen appliances all work just fine, and there's a grocery store 5 minutes away, right down the road on the way into Southwest Harbor.
The location is amazing - you will wake to rosy-fingered dawn creeping over the dark mountains to lighten the wine-dark sea in Somes Sound. If you want to explore, the park is minutes away. If you want to stay home, relax on the porch, or in the chairs on the lawn by the water, or in the hot tub right on the porch. Southwest Harbor is 5 minutes away, for breakfast and dinner at Eat a Pita, or a late lobster lunch at Beals' Dock, down by the Coast Guard Station (10 minutes away).
It was perfect. Enjoy!
A great week recharging the batteries
The property was nicely restored, retaining much of its antique charm while having enough modern amenities to not need to rough it. The Somes Sound location was beautiful. I could live on the porch and already miss having my morning coffee looking at lobster boats and porpoises going by. A bald eagle flew by once. Nearby Southwest Harbor was a nice break from the Bar Harbor crowds but are he house was not too far for when you wanted to venture there and go all tourist. Best hike of the trip was in our backyard practically with Acadia Mountain and St Sauveur Mountain barely a mile away. The house was very clean and the owners clearly care about the place and their guests experience.
Got to meet the owner, Dave when he came by to put chemical in the hot tub. Nice guy. Thanks for a great week.
We had an amazing time at Heavenly Days. The view is spectacular and the house is charming and stocked with what we needed for a great week. The fire pit and hot tub were great ways to relax at the end of an active day. The porch was entirely enclosed so our two young children (2 and 5) spent a lot of time out there without us having to worry about them getting down to the water. We would definitely return!
