Captain's Quarters in Oct. 2019
This apartment is an updated section in the back of an old historic 1830's Captain's house with beautiful wood floors throughout. I have stayed at many VRBO properties and this property was immaculate, cleaner than any I have rented! I think I could have eaten off the floors! Three of us stayed over Columbus Day weekend for our 50th high school reunion. The kitchen was bright and well appointed. When we arrived there was a welcome basket on the counter with coffee packets for the coffee maker and snacks; we just needed to add sugar and milk which we picked up on our way into town. . The Melitta coffee maker was the quiestest coffee maker I have ever experienced. It used cone filters and you could choose the strength of the coffee you wished to make. The ice cube tray was filled, ready and waiting in the freezer. The wifi worked great as did the cable tv in the living room. The beds had firm mattresses which were comfortable for us. The stairs to the upstairs bedroom are a little steep, but very doable, but not for little kids or the elderly. There is a lovely gazebo and deck outside the kitchen for your pleasure including a small grill. This house is only a few walkable blocks from the village where you can pick up groceries at the local IGA; walk along the waterfront; grab a coffe and a sweet treat; or explore the many quaint shops. There are many restaurants in Greenport and a very nice fish market outside of town past the Port of Egypt on the left side of the road heading east. The property is next door to the Floyd Memorial Library which is open to all seven days a week. We have stayed at most of the hotels in the Greenport vincinity, but have found it is really more cozy to stay at a small apartment, condo or house if the group is larger. It is obvious that Isabel is vested in her guests having a five star experience at her apartment as she pays attention to the small details. Overall, we were very comforatble at this apartment and would definitely choose it again if we were to return to Greenport.
Immaculate! A very big thank you to Theresa. We enjoyed the area and were able to do day trips to other locations from Greenport which was great. We visited Shelter Island, Sag Harbor, and Montauk...all very nice. Beautiful beaches in Montauk!!!
Just not for us
This Greenport house is in a neighborhood experiencing a resurgence. It is just over two blocks from town and an easy walk. The owner did a nice job redoing the kitchen and bathroom. Although new, there was no room for any groceries so most things remained on the counter. Not good if you want to cook there however, we did appreciate the new soft bathroom linen. Both bedrooms are small which is ok except the main floor bedroom had no closet or draws, just some open shelves and a coat rack.
Everyone has their preference of mattress firmness. I personally found both mattresses to be too hard for me to sleep in so I ended up sleeping on the couch.
If you don’t plan on preparing any meals there and you prefer a very firm bed, I would recommend it. It just did not work for us.
