How to feel at home in Kyoto
This is a lovely machiya in a quiet location just south of Kyoto station. I found it a perfect base to explore Kyoto and Nara. I think it is best suited for one or two persons as it is quite small. It has everything you need to prepare meals (a nespresso machine would be a welcome addition) and is well heated (and cooled) with a number of air conditioning units and underfloor heating. I especially appreciated the block out curtains so I could sleep well (this is difficult to find in Machiya). As a solo traveller I felt very safe and at home. There is a large shopping mall a short walk away and it is very close to a convenience store, grocery store and Toji station (just one stop from Kyoto station). The owner, Akiko, was always very quick to reply to questions and emails and was extremely helpful when I raised a concern about noise from building work going on one door down - (this is obviously just a temporary situation that the owners have no control over). Office staff were also very helpful during my stay. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and would love to return
Thank you very much for your comment, Tracey san. We're glad you liked the house and enjoyed your stay.
Again sorry for the trouble next door and the noise they made on your first morning. I'm glad they behaved after we had a chance to talk to them.
It has been a pleasure to host you and we hope to have again a chance to welcome you.
Amazing Stay in Kyoto
This was our second stay in Japan and was the best of all three. House was super clean and organized. Host was very friendly and allowed us to leave our luggage there earlier. Totally would recomend this place to anyone.

Great place to stay in Kyoto
We loved our time staying at the Toji Machiya. It is in a great location, near transport (including Kyoto station about 10-15 mins walk), and with its sliding paper walls and tatami mats will make you feel you are really in Japan. Not to mention Samurai Kevin and all the decorations!
Thank you very much for your comment, Heather san, It has been a pleasure to host you and we're glad you liked the house and enjoyed your stay.
We hope to have again the pleasure to welcome you.
Thanks to Akiko san and Patrick san for hosting at their lovely home. We enjoyed absolutely everything; the traditional architecture and furnishings, the lovely residential neighborhood and having everything at hand but a bit removed from the more crowded sight dense areas. It's such a pleasure for us to wake us to peaceful everyday life around us, shop from neighborhood shops for a meal and just enjoy roll playing at being part of a city. Perfect place if that's what you cherish!
Patrick's website was a helpful guideline to plan my itineraries while in Kyoto and his extraordinary photography and inspiration.
The staff from the managing office was very helpful and cordial with a couple of vital requests for help.
Many thanks to everyone!
