Great Value, Great Location, Well Stocked, What More Do you Want?
Excellent choice in a quiet neighborhood set amidst the lush north-western shores of Kauai.
3B/2B with large living space, well stocked kitchen, and large yard with a grill. Just about any beach supplies you may need are available for use by tenants, including beach chairs, mats, small to large coolers/insulated carrying cases, towels, etc. Rooms were well maintained/stocked, bath amenities were acceptable, and the kitchen had everything you'd need.
The neighborhood itself is quite quiet with the exception of the feral crazed roosters that don't seem to know if it's 2 AM or 2 PM but they're everywhere in Kauai (and part of the charm - embrace the locality!). Yes other reviewers pointed out the noise-sensitive neighbors but I had no such problem. Temperature was pleasant (went at the end of Feb) and a natural breeze was pleasant the entire time which helped keep temperatures reasonable. Not sure what it would be like in high heat. But the windows/shades were open most of the time and the screens kept out any flying curiosities.
Backyard patio is perfect for breakfast or a nice evening sake. Arachnophobes may want to pay close attention to webs outside - leave Charlotte alone and she'll leave you in peace. Part of the charm.
In terms of supplies and dinners, you may find yourself visiting Hanalei Bay for outings. About a 15 minute drive to the east. Lots of switchback turns and a few one-lane bridges. Pay attention your first time doing this at night. Otherwise a great drive, and mostly against traffic.
The nearest beach is ~ 5 minutes away, NOT out your backyard, but reasonable. However realize that it may not be that safe to swim in the winter months. Tunnels beach is about a 25-30 minute walk and has fantastic snorkeling and is still fine in the winter.
Check-in was a breeze with a lockbox and ample instructions emailed to me by a very conscientious manager, who also provided great recommendations. She was quite courteous and answered all questions promptly and thoroughly.
Overall, would stay again and next time get a park permit:
NOTE TO PARK GOERS - I wish I had known this before (and it's not the manager's fault) but if you are even THINKING of staying at this property or a nearby property with the intention of going to/past Haena, be advised that you now need to apply for a park permit, and they seem to be sold out about 2-3 weeks in advance. I wasn't able to nab one but there are still plenty of things to do.
We loved our stay at Beachcomber Bungalow! The house was beautiful and the location perfect. It was walking distance to Tunnels Beach which is an extra bonus. We loved hearing the surf at night. Can’t wait to come back.
