quirky, sweet place to stay
Lovely outdoor areas for sunset watching, trail to beach includes sweet waterfall. Great hot tub and grill. Small living space that could be improved upon by clutter removal (although the clutter is fun and interesting!) and adding a small settee facing window view in lieu of bulky chairs facing away from view. No need for large dining table either. No need for two TVs.....although we did watch Walter Mitty on Netflix account while eating Owner supplied Milano cookies in bed. Great location, quiet and private.
Anniversary And Birthday getaway
This place is a Diamond in the rough, and thanks Curt for letting us stay at your beautiful place! There is many places to sit in the amazing Garden and the hot tub overlooks the ocean. The cottage had everything we needed and definitely 4 days wasn’t long enough, thanks again Curt!
Garden of Eden - lovely stay
Property was as advertised and more. Of course the pictures cannot do justice to the beauty of the gardens and the view of the Pacific Ocean. As pictured the indoor space was small, but very manageable for 2 people. We had two large suit cases, a roller style carry on and a shoulder bag and found space for everything. Inside is so fun with interesting things to look at in every corner. Very nice TVs - I think we had one on for about 30 minutes while getting ready to go out one evening. Great detailed instructions, I really appreciate the pictures. Curtis put a lot of special touches around the property. Too many to mention. Very much appreciated is the ambient lighting. Just enough to see to get around the gardens and house at night, but not so much as to disturb your sleep. Also, raising the bed so that you are even with the window for watching the ocean waves, wonderful touch. Remote control for lights at head of bed very convenient. My husband was excited about the outdoor shower, I was not. Turns out it was wonderful and I only used the indoor shower once. The trek to the ocean was another surprise. It is not a spiral staircase upkept by the national park service, it is a nice trail to the ocean, with some steps added to assist, there is a lovely waterfall about 1/2 way down. We enjoy hiking and thought the trail was great. This was a great pivot point for hiking the redwoods. Definitely make it up to Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park as the trees there are even bigger. Saw elk at Elk Meadow, evening 6ish also saw a herd in the morning 8:30ish. Prairie Creek has good trails for really getting into the woods and away from street noise. We were in awe at every turn. We liked the Eatery in town and Larupin was also very good, a little more expensive, good food, good service, a little noisy inside, perhaps asking for an outdoor table would be a good idea. Loved northern California and feel like we found the perfect place to stay, we called it our own Garden of Eden and hated to leave.
AMAZING isn’t a good enough word!
Let me count the ways this place was heaven on earth. We get there and Curt is walking over with Ice Cream for us! Talk about a sweet hello! He was super nice and gave us great recommendations on where to go for dinner and how stuff worked. He said he’s there but you wouldn’t notice him. We go in the house and the immense feeling of coziness and home and love fills you. The smells and the sounds just hug you. He left us a note saying help yourself to the local fruit and brews in the fridge, which we just thought was so sweet! There was wine for us, and even waffle mix! Talk about user friendly, never was there a time when I said “hmm I wonder how this works”, he had everything labeled and everything had a step by step guide with a hand drawn picture next to it. there were binders for local things to do too. For someone who loves lists, I was in heaven. But heaven was outside, the hot tub overview area was a slice of heaven. The lights and sounds of sea otter outside made everything so magical. The sauna and out door shower were amazing too! The little seating area off to the front of the hot tub was amazing as well. Just sitting there drinking your morning coffee, nothing in life will be better than that. The walk down to the beach made you feel like you conquered the earth, but holy crap that private beach down there is worth the walk. Just you and the waves and sea lions. Curt has chairs and a grill down there so you can make a dinner down there! The whole time we were there we kept saying it really shows how much Curt loves opening his home to people. There aren’t enough words to tell you how amazing this place was. The whole time we felt comfy and cozy and one with nature in a picture perfect setting.
Wonderful getaway
The property is very clean and private. It is off the beaten path, but Curtis provided instructions that walk you through everything and he was always available to answer questions. The house was cozy, clean, comfortable, and secluded, which was perfect for our wedding anniversary trip. The house is decorated with many unique and local furnishings that made it very interesting. We saw something new inside every day. We used the house as a home base for our day travels to the Redwoods and Patrick's Point which worked out nicely. The restaurants and shops in Trinidad are just up the road. We enjoyed the landscaping and private grounds - especially the hot tub and lounge chair deck. We enjoyed sitting on the deck every night until the sun set listening to the sea lions. The house was equipped with everything we needed and if you take time to read the meticulous and detailed notebooks Curtis prepared, you should have no questions. The beach area is very private also and at the bottom of a number of steps. We would definitely consider another stay at this property.
