Tree house facing a wooded, dirt path
My husband and I stayed at this cozy house of wood-paneled interiors a la Craftsman style. We definitely enjoyed our stay even with the limitations. We were able to walk down the hill to a well known small and popular restaurants and Peet's coffee shop. The house is in the interior of a block in a beautiful neighborhood, with no direct access to any street. We read previous reviews which mentioned a lot of stairs to get to it without mentioning how many. We drove to the address we were directed to go and parked, looked up and ended up going up about 100 steps with side railings! We later found out there are 3 other entrances with fewer steps, from 15 to 51. One full bathroom with one unfinished one. 5 beds, one antique double bed for individuals shorter than 5'6", two single beds of a trundle set,, the bottom bed not comfortable. No railings to go up the stone steps to the house which we found a bit dangerous for us elders. Railings, railings, railings! Every one who visited loved the house and the views, spectacular! Friends who had lived there forever were unaware of these living paths. The hosts were most gracious and generous with the kitchen spices, oils, etc. Scott responded immediately to calls and texting.
One of the best places we’ve found on HomeAway. Scott was very helpful getting us settled and his place is well kept, thoughtful, great view, and had a unique location.
Lovely Claremont Vacation Home
My 12 years old son and I enjoyed staying at Scott's house. It is a historical and beautiful building with a spectacular view of the bay. Scott is a wonderful host! The only thing that might be important to know is that is a steep hike into the Claremont Hills from the street level, which might be difficult for people with mobility issues. We got a good daily exercise out of it!
Perfect getaway spot
This home was a perfect 'base' for our family vacation. We are a family of 5 who have outgrown the ability to squeeze into one hotel room. For well below the cost of 2 rooms and paying for parking in downtown SF, this house provided us with everything we could have asked for in a vacation spot. Impeccably clean throughout. The kitchen worked equally well for a quick meal before heading out for the day or a more ambitious sit down meal. Plenty of comfy space to stretch out, and incredible views of the city from the living room or the front porch. The second bath is being remodeled but usable for bare essentials and amazingly still very clean (which is pretty unusual for a room that is being worked on!). The host was extremely helpful and knowledgeable about the area. This home feels like you are living in a secluded tree house but with easy walk to coffee, bakery, and local restaurants. Driving to the BART to get into the city, groceries, and other restaurants was easy as well. Our weather was gorgeous but if it weren't, there were lots of cozy activities like games, puzzles, books and TV. Outside was a quiet place to observe birds, the friendly neighbor cat, and a majestic mule deer drinking from the bird bath! The stairs are not to be underestimated though. There's really no way around having to go up and down them to your car. But once you're settled into this beautiful home, you (like us) won't want to leave.
Great views, serene and private.
A great week we had at the house, walking the trail and enjoying the amenities.
My husband and ten month old daughter and I stayed for about ten days over New Years Eve. The two-level house (master on the second floor, bedrooms on the first) exceeded all of our expectations. Not only is the panoramic view breathtaking (great fireworks!), but the original structure has been refurbished with care and consideration. Beds are good (especially in the master suite); shower is great; kitchen is fantastic. You feel like you are living in a proper house and because the property is accessed by a footpath, it feels like a secret vintage hideaway. The neighborhood is quiet. The house has a yard area with bird baths and robins visit them often. Great walking trails in the immediate vicinity and a nice little strip of shops about a 10 minute walk away. Scott and Walter are wonderful hosts. We met Scott when we arrived and he took us around the place. He had a high chair and pack and play that we used and we brought our own socket covers for the outlets. It was fantastic!
