After renting various homes around Killington for 15 years, we decided to build a new home of our own design, picked a lot and began talks w a builder. In all those years of renting, we never found a rental that met our desire to be able to gather a large group of family and close friends for meals sitting together at one time or enough bathrooms to get everyone ready for slopes in morning. We were tired of steep, Billy-goat type driveways that trapped us in a rental after each big snow. We wanted a home with plenty of parking for at least a half dozen cars, a flat drive and within walking distance to shops and restaurants. Sound familiar? A realtor who had presented us with lots for sale called to say she found a large, older home for sale with a huge stone fireplace that seemed to meet our requirements. She was right and it was in a beautiful neighborhood!
We did need to make quite a few upgrades. So we bought in 2004, added a new second deck to hold a new and larger hot tub, new and larger capacity electrical system, new floors, carpets, fire sprinkler system with heads in every room and closet, 1000 gallon water cistern, a new well thru 400 ft of granite, new pool table, new roof, a backup generator that could automatically transfer load for entire house including hot tub heaters, new insulation, new wooden ceilings in several rooms, granite counters in kitchen, a commercial propane stove and painted everything inside an out. Local fire marshal insisted we also install an integrated fire smoke and CO detection system throughout with sirens, strobes and pull boxes all monitored 24/7 with self reporting to local fire department. He also insisted on fire resistant paint in all stairwells, solid fire doors at each stairway with automatic closers and various warnings posted throughout.
While process was bit difficult at times, we hope you will feel very safe and enjoy the amenities at our home, Innisfree, just as we do.
