Nice Trullo with some remarks
The Trullo is set in a very spacious property, very quiet surroundings and it’s a nice, large building. The location is very good, between Alberobello and Martina Franca. The huge fig tree in front of the house provides - next to essential shade in summer - also dozens of fresh figs every day – delicious!!
The two bathrooms are very nice and modern also the sleeping room is cosy and pretty. The kitchen, which is also the living room and the room next to the kitchen (with a sleeping sofa in it) could be in better conditions.
Now the remarks on the issues that were a bit annoying: Some light bulbs were not working, the kitchen is a bit sparsely equipped concerning number of spoons, cups, plates and cooking pots etc. Due to the old stone house you are living in you might from time to time find some insects inside (including small scorpions but they are not dangerous). As international arriving guest will normally have a long journey to get there and as you are not allowed to drink the water from the taps it would be a nice gesture to at least provide enough drinking water at arrival if not some small items for a late small supper.
Very unfortunately, it seems that this nice house and property is not well maintained and the owners are not keeping an eye on it on a regular basis which is a pity because the property itself is a jewel. Sure, you have a very nice woman, Clelia, as a contact there and she really is very helpful. But in the end this house needs a bit a face-lift inside and that is the owner’s task. But most absolutely unsatisfying issue was the bad communication with the owners. It took a very long time to get the booking confirmation and the description on how to find the house (we were told that the e-mail communication was not working properly), but it took also very long to get the deposit refunded. The re-imbursement of the deposit we paid prior our arrival took three reminders and more than 2 weeks to get back. This is unacceptable. This was what was giving this stay a very bad impression although the house is really nice. Therefore, we are hesitant to recommend this house as the communication is simply extremely slow and requires a lot of reminders. We would rate 4 stars for the house, but due to the communication hassle it’s just 3 stars.
Great! Only 1 comment...
We stayed in the Trullo del Fico in late July 2013. The trullo is very charming and attractively furnished with all amenities. Maria met us shortly after our arrival and was very very helpful with suggestions of places to visit etc. and spent a good amount of time showing us how everything worked in the trullo. There is also a large selection of regional travel guides. We loved sitting under the wonderful giant fig tree and taking in the scenery. The trullo is well situated and we found it easy to make day trips from there to nearby villages or beaches. The owner, Leonardo, was reachable and also very helpful. One comment is Maria informed us upon arrival that we would have to vacate the trullo at 8am the following Saturday as they had other renters arriving. This caught us by surprise as we have been renting out an apartment in central Paris for 13 years and have never asked guests to leave so early. We were able to negotiate a 9am departure with Maria. In between, I had correspondence with Leonardo who assured us it was no problem to stay until even 11am as the other guests were not arriving until much later. However, Saturday arrived and first a utility worker arrived before 8:30am to change the gas tank (arranged by Maria without our knowledge and we had to open the gate for him) and then Maria and her cleaner showed up at 8:30am, "a little early" as she said. We were still eating breakfast in our pajamas, so indeed it was a "little early" and it felt intrusive and like we were being chased out. She and her cleaner proceeded to clean the terrace and stood outside waiting for us to get dressed and leave. My suggestion would be to respect common departure times for rentals and hotels which is generally 10am at the earliest. All in all in a great place to stay and we loved Puglia and would highly recommend this Trullo!
