Christmas in Osmotherley
Super cottage, well-equipped and ideal for or Christmas break near to family in the village.
Not for publication.....
1. The hot water supply seemed to have switched off for our final 24 hours? Any longer would have been a problem.
2. Warn visitors to check when parking a car in front of the cottage, even for a short period. We got a parking ticket because our daughter pulled up to unload and inadvertently left the rear of the car (not the wheels) straddling the drop kerb while she was indoors. We appreciate that the village has congested parking issues, but were astonished by the enthusiasm with which we were booked!!
Dear Bernice I'm so sorry that you had problems with the hot water I feel desperate that I didn't know because I came over to the village on the Saturday and did knock on Grange cottage door as a set of car keys had been found in the drive area. Please in future contact me as I would have sorted an issue like that out. My number and the House Managers Number are on the cottage information webpage.
I'm grateful that this hiccup didn't bight the stay you had at the cottage. Thank you for your review and please if you or family have lost keys do let me know Thank you Kate
Just a lovely homely cottage, tastefully understated decor
Osmotherley is such a lovely village,we'd stayed before but this cottage trumped the last one,i forgot to mention to husband that there was no telly but we didn't miss it at all,we just relaxed with papers, books and crosswords...when we weren't walking or enjoying local hostelries!!!will definitely be back😊
Does what it says on the tin
My daughter and her family stayed here for two nights and her comments were....
Yes there is no TV or WiFi but didn't feel it was not needed. There is not proper sofa but more like a futon sofa bed, an armchair and a couple of comfy dinning chairs. They slept in the back bedroom and the bed was soft but comfy. All in all it did what was needed for our stay and would return.
Everything that we were looking for
This is a lovely cottage, compact but it has everything we were looking for and more! Kitchen was excellently equipped The cottage has a shower room and an ensuite bathroom. The lounge is small but just fine for the two of us and our dogs, it even had a dining table. We were a little worried as a previous reviewer said the beds werent comfy but that wasnt our experience at all, both doubles were very comfy. We stayed over Christmas and they had gone to the trouble of putting up decorations for us!! We didnt need the log burner as the heating kept us very cosy. The cottage is right in the middle of this lovely village and we had a wonderful stay. We will do our very best to stay again sometime soon.
We had great difficulty getting into the home. The pre-arrival information did not state that we needed to enter the home via a different street than listed. I tried calling the owner 4 times and there was no response. It took us over an hour to figure it out (at night, in the rain). I suggest the property owner be far more clear and provide pre-arrival information other than the key code. You also need to note that there is no service in the area and wifi is not provided (the listing says it's available, it is not). There is wifi at the local pubs that you can use.
As for the property itself, it was clean and provided all we needed for our short stay. Kitchen is properly equipped (although small appliances are very dated). The home instructions were not complete and we found it difficult to figure out the laundry and showers, but with a little trial and error, we were able to get it. The home guide should be updated as it was clearly written some time ago. The beds were extremely uncomfortable (you could literally feel the springs in the mattress), as was the seating in the downstairs room (hard as a rock). The over all furniture and decor is a bit of a hodge podge of items (and gave the over all feeling that they were former items of the owner that they've replaced or picked up from a free/giveaway site of sorts - either way it's clear the owner has only spent minimal money to furnish the home itself). Stairs in the home were extremely narrow and steep, as I assume they all are in the area. This in particular makes the home unfriendly for smaller children and those with mobility concerns.
The home is in a cute little town with 2 pubs and market. But note that they close early! So if you arrive late, you're on your own until morning. It is close to main roadways and provides easy access to the national park.
