Outstanding experience in this charming and secluded cabin!
We instantly felt at home. The cabin offers every amenity that one could imagine including performing washing and drying machines and a portable dish washer. It was very clean and the upkeep is excellent. It also offers comfortable spaces and the set-up provides intimacy for everyone. The wifi connection was great.
We very much enjoyed the outdoor fire place and celebrated the New Year around it … and were lucky to hear the growl of a black bear, an outstanding way of marking 2020!
The porch was very enjoyable too. We had an amazingly sunny and warm weather (… not so good for the nature unfortunately) and could relax, read, had coffee, watched the sunset and stargazed from the platform!
We spent 3 weeks in the cabin, there are plenty of exciting things to do even in winter : scenic drives all around the cabin, exploration of the maples orchards and the old farms on forest roads, history (nice villages, early settlements, and remnants of the civil war, don’t forget to visit the family cemetery close to the cabin, Staunton architecture and art places are remarkable), and a lot of hiking opportunities. Many options directly from the cabin (trails behind the cabin, along the river below the cabin and up to Breastworks) or at a reasonable driving distance from the cabin in the George Washington National Forest (highly recommended: Jerry’s Run, Benson Run, Red Knob, High Knob). Buying the National Geographic “Staunton Shenandoah Mountains” map is a must for the one hiking.
Breakworks is a great place for sun set or stargazing and enjoy a superb view of the milky way.
Shopped in Harrisonburg, Staunton, at the nearby Virginia Trout Company and at Monterey (great Big Fish micro cidery and very friendly welcome at the Ernie’s market).
Last but not least, neighbors were extremely friendly and the 3 family dogs are lovely.
Thanks Roger for all your advise before our coming and for sharing your cozy cabin. It was a wonderful Christmas vacation for our family.. We will keep great memories and we will definitely stay again whenever we have the opportunity.
Wonderful place to stay!
My friends and I went for a girls weekend and had a wonderful time at this secluded and peaceful property. The kitchen had everything you need to cook, including a wall of cast iron pans. We really enjoyed our campfires and the stargazing was amazing.
Better than advertised!!
Perfect!! My son and I went there for a "guys" weekend to relax and hang out. Couldn't have asked for better accommodations. The location, the cabin, the weather, the animals, oh and did I say beer...I will be coming back again for sure.
What an awesome time we had
This is the first time that I have been to Virginia and West Virginia to the mountains. We usually go to North Carolina. I will be back next year, a little later, and hope for cool weather We were their for 8 nights and everything at the cabin was great Thanks for allowing me to have access to your cabin I could make that my real home
cozy and comfortable
Such a darling little cabin nestled up in the mountains. It was well stocked and a pleasure to stay. We enjoyed the hike right next to the cabin and sitting on the porch watching hummingbirds as the mountain air refreshed our souls. Thank you Roger! We will be back!
The owner has thought of everything to make this a wonderful, comfortable stay
I’ve stayed in many VRBO’s and with the exception of one they have all been nice and exactly as expected but this property far exceeded anything I could have expected. We drove up and it felt just like home, we couldn’t have wanted a thing. When I say home, not because he had his personal items in there (which he didn’t) but in the sense it was perfect and I couldn’t have asked for more. The kitchen just may have been better equipped than my own. It is close to a town called Monterey which has several dozen quilt designs painted on barns - “barn quilts”. We spent several hours finding and photographing them. We went trout fishing at the Virgina Trout Company in Monterey. There are several beautiful (but sad) Civil War battlefields nearby to hike. There is even a lovely steep hike at the side of the house. The cabin is stocked with games and puzzles which we enjoyed playing every night instead of watching TV. The cabin is modern, has excellent linens, lovely furniture, and while we were there was frequently visited by hummingbirds. All my communications with owner were very friendly, almost immediate, and he answered all my questions - which were few because he communicated with me so well in his written instructions. If you want to unplug and have some serenity, this is it. He has sattilte TV, good WiFi, and a landline phone. However I was able to make and receive cell phone calls through WiFi. The first big town from here is about 45min away - Staunton, but that is part of the joy. Lovely Mountain View’s, fresh country air, and no noise except for an occasional bird. Thank you for the lovely stay - one which we’ll never forget.
