A lovely old house in the middle of town. The square is the meeting point for many of the locals and the starting and finishing point of religious ceremonies, which we had the privilege of experiencing. Near to the Caminito del Rey and Embalse concorde de Guadalhorce where you can go swimming after walking. Ronda, Malaga, Antequera and beaches all within an easy driving distance. The town has many tapas bars and a couple of restaurants which are amazingly well priced. If you are looking for traditional Spain with very few tourists this is the place. The house is over 4 levels but we only used the upper ones. A lovely roof terrace overlooking the square with a kitchen and bathroom on the same level is where we spent most our time. Two of the bedrooms face out to the square and if you are a light sleeper you may need earplugs as the Spanish can be very loud and have a different day/night rhythm than most north Europeans. The house is fully equipped with all you need. This house is not luxurious, but well kept and clean. The drains in the downstairs bathroom can be a bit smelly but come on this is Spain, we just ran water in them everyday and kept the extractor fan on and it solved the problem, the stairs in the house are steep and you may have a number of folk sitting on your doorstep at all hours of the day BUT we loved it. You drive 40km from Torremolinos and arrive in an authentic part of Spain where hardly anyone speaks a word of English and you are a visitor. Amazing! Thanks for the welcome food and drink, it was much appreciated as we arrived so late.
Thank you for this Janice, I think it captures perfectly the style and spirit of the house and the square in which it is situated. With best wishes, Kevin
Great place . Perfect town and area for climbing and walking. Good house and facilities. Stairs great exercise for walking and climbing.
Thanks Jan, I'm always glad when people enjoy the house as much as we do. It is the perfect base for climbing and walking, it's one of the reasons we bought the house. Surrounded by great mountains, particularly around El Chorro, with a lovely, lively town to retreat to in the evening. Hope we hear from you again. With best wishes, Kevin
Nice place. Perfect location!
Really nice place. Perfect location.
I can only agree! Thanks Marta.
With best wishes,
Kevins house lived up to expectations, the house its self had everything you would
need though we only really used the top two floors. The stairs toughened us up for exploring Alora and the environs, the square and its inhabitants were a constant delight,we returned from el chorro one night to find a horse tethered to the front door its owner was quick to appear full of smiles and appologies. In the square there are several shops and bars to supply most if not all of your needs including cheerful spanish lessons.
Even if ,like us,your not religious the mass one sunday was beautifully sung,an uplifting way to start the day.
If like us you are not computer savvy pensioners(jubilardos a much finer spanish version)be aware that tickets for the Caminito del Rey can only be purchased online and well in advance. There are plenty of other good things to do there.
We used the local buses to come and go and the drivers soon got to now us and were very helpful .
Thank you, Paul.
It's always great to hear that guests have really enjoyed their stay and appreciated the eclectic life in the square to the full.
With best wishes,
Few days in alora
Loved the house very clean everything you need. Beautiful Spanish village
Thank you for this, Jayne - glad you enjoyed your stay and hope to see you again, Kevin
