Beautiful Condo? Tired, poorly maintained.
On arrival we found the condo fast, checked in easily, and then quickly discovered the poor state of the condo.
Mold & mildew in and around the shower and bathroom, most fixtures (taps) heavily corroded.
Gum stuck on the side of a night table. Bed comforter stained,
Messaged the owner who said he would send cleaners- never happened.
No beach chairs, no umbrella - for a condo almost on the beach?! The roof pool is nice, but all the chairs & cushions are tired/dated.
The elevator frequently wasn’t operating, and the water was off for most of an afternoon & morning- no showers & buckets of water the ‘flush’ the toilet.
We left a day early - couldn’t stand staying any longer.
Not a dream vacation....had to leave the unit early...
After reading the reviews and seeing the pictures, I thought 4 nights stay was in order. It wasn't pleasurable, we had to leave after two nights. Many problems that I shouldn't have had to manage during a vacation, the unit wasn't ready. Check-in went smooth. We arrived to find out from the checkin guy that the rooftop pool was closed. Primary reason we chose this rental was the rooftop pool (and the beautiful pictures on VRBO....), no notification from the owner prior to our arrival. As we entered, AC wasn't on in the unit, windows open, and the tile floor was wet and dangerously slick. After we turned on the AC the moisture on the floor went away after about 30 minutes. AC did blow cold. Electronic safe didn't work, Mario the property manager was trying to get me to fix/reset, finally we had the maintenance guys come look at it, who finally just gave me a key to it. Now we have wasted a few hours waiting on floors to be safe and the safe to be functional. Back door lock was broken so felt unsafe the entire stay. Pictures of broken lock sent to Mario with no response. Next morning, no hot water for a shower. I was by myself so took quick freezing shower. Mario and property folks worked on it, promised was fixed, but never got fixed. 2nd day, my girlfriend had arrived and we had to go visit a friend to take a shower at their place because still no hot water. We had had enough, the place wasn't safe and secure, we weren't sleeping, and couldn't take a proper shower because of lack of hot water. We left after two unpleasurable nights. The property was generally clean upon arrival, though I only gave 3 cleanliness stars as there is black gunk around the shower entrance. Also, the light in the shower didn't work, I think another light was out somewhere, TV controller in bedroom didn't work, etc. etc. While we were in the unit, communication with Mario was just ok. Obviously he didn't get the rental into a livable condition while we were there but he did provide some level of effort. We communicated that we were leaving after the 2nd day, Mario asked for a paypal account to provide refund, which I provided. Two weeks go by, no comms, no refund, I guess it was supposed to just go away.... I have to reach out to him, he wants me to pay full price for the two nights I was there. Incredible. Won't be back.
Property was in good conditions, clean and its a beautiful apartment, we had guests just before, that they said had an amazing time and we had guests just some days after, that also are very happy with their stays.
The pool area was closed because it was damaged and it was dangerous to the guests, so administration decided to fix and close the pool area at the rooftop as Emergency, but still had the main floor pool, this was unfortunate but this kind of things happens, and now its fixed.
AC its not turned on before people arrive, because sometimes guests arrive before or after the time they tell us, the apartment is too close to the beach that it brings humidity sometimes, but when the AC its turned on, its gone.
This type of issues are not in our control, and they were fixed, it wasn't a big problem.
About refund, we're refunding the nights they didn't stayed.
Great area of Playa Del Carmen
Great location that is close to La Quinta and the ocean. If you have a car, it could be tricky finding parking during the day since the property is quite close to the public beach.
Close to many great restaurants.
Condo was nice. The only complaint was the shower which had varied water pressure ranging from a regular shower to a drizzle. Condo stayed nice and cool. Would stay there again.
The condo was great, just as advertised. Very open and spacious, one block from the beach. Front desk guys were nice, always willing to help out. The upstairs pool was probably the best part. It had a good view of the ocean and the surrounding area. Aside from the condo, the restaurants on the street were all top-notch. Amazing drinks and happy hour. Perfect place for a couple.
