We loved Alicia's palapa! First of all, Jesus picked us up at the airport and took us to a bank to get money exchanged and also to shop before he dropped us off at the dock in Boca. He was great! The water taxi was loaded to say the least, and we wondered a little when we saw that there were only a couple of life jackets, but the boat ride was beautiful as well as fun! And the water landing at Choncos was unique! Yes, there were right at 100 steps to climb to get to Alicia's palapa but the view was awesome and we loved waking up in the morning and being able to see the ocean and the jungle from our bedroom. We loved the quiet seclusion and privacy we felt. We brought along a couple of luci lights and they were helpful in preparing our evening meals. And there were a lot of candles which we lit and it gave the palapa a warm and cozy ambiance that was really neat. We did take the hike into Chimo which was beautiful, and enjoyed fresh red snapper and shrimp ceveche at Arturo's restaurant. The food was delicious and Arturo was so friendly! We also bought some fresh red snapper to prepare ourselves at the palapa. It was such a relaxing time and a new adventure which we loved! We really hope we can come back!
We enjoyed getting completely away from life's distractions.. Watching the wildlife around us and gazing at the stars was amazing. Although getting to Chino was a challenge, the food cooked by Arturo's wife was one of the best culinary experiences ever.
Kelly, please let me know what to improve on. This is the lowest review I have received so far in almost 2.5 years. I will be glad to accommodate change, but as you know it is an open air palapa, and the elements surround you. To some that is the special part and to others a little more less lavish. Thank you for your response, and I will continue to evolve with Casa Sarah to improve peoples’ experience!
Great for the adventurous traveler!
We came to Los Chonchos fairly shortly after the tropical storm, so some of our experience was affected by the aftermath— no fault of our host or anyone. The trail up to the palapa was more treacherous than usual I imagine, you'll need to be in good shape and have sturdy shoes to climb stone and wood stairs plus steep muddy inclines. Things like the stained, torn mosquito netting, the finicky toilet (had to fill the bowl with water by hand) and lack of things like hand soap definitely made the accommodations feel less than deluxe. But the view is incredible, the sound of the surf amazing, and the on-site chef Alphonso was so kind and kept us well-fed. The other staff was amenable, though no one ever communicated clearly to us who to go to for information; we did most of our communicating through Alphonso. No one when we were there spoke English, so we made do with my Spanish. The beach at Los Chonchos had been very affected by the storm and wasn't great for swimming, boating, etc. We made the trek to the other beach about 20 minutes away, which was quite lovely. The rest of the path to Chimo was impassable, so we never made it to the town. Coming back at dusk was a bit scary as we found out that the entire jungle teems with thousands of crabs when the sun sets. All in all, it was an unforgettable adventure.
Unfortunately Chonchos was hit hard by the tropical storm. I just checked with the manager of Chonchos and the trail to Chimo is open. It is accessed from the Southern part of the big beach. Thanks for the input and everything else will be worked out. Crabs are an extremely special part of the experience. My two children get a kick out of them as well. The mosquito nets are brand new, and as natural habitation in the jungle, things happen. I usually spend time cleaning the nets, but the outdoor experience and loveliness surmounts the small imperfections of nature! I am glad you enjoyed your stay, and it has been hard work rebuilding the palapa community after the storm!
The palapa was amazing with an incredible veiw! We enjoyed the wildlife, hiking, and beach front tremendously!
Everyone was very helpful and the meal we purchased at the restaurant was fantastic! Alicia’s palapa is very comfortable with new bed netting and very clean and cozy! The storms we got to see were incredible!!
We enjoyed our trip very much! Thank you Ms Alicia! We will he back!
Wonderful secluded location for a tranquil vacation
This was our second time to Chonchos. The location and experience of being in such a remote spot is what makes it so special. So much more peaceful and relaxing than staying in the heart of Vallarta or in the monster resorts of Neuevo Vallarta!
