We enjoyed our month at Colibri II. The property is just as described, very clean and comfortable. Comfy bed and lots of hot water. The location was close to Escuela Falcon, which I attended and would also highly recommend. There are lots of steps up to the property, which is to be expected in Guanajuato, but the spectacular view from the rooftop was totally worth the walk! Torsten was easy to contact, he responded quickly, and even arranged middle-of-the-night transportation for us. Gerardo was at the house frequently tending to the pretty outdoor courtyard area and was also helpful. We would definitely stay there again!
A very nice apartment
This is a very nice apartment with a beautiful and spacious kitchen, two large bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a large living area. You can easily sleep another person on the pull out sofa. Everything works perfectly and the showers are excellent. The apartment is convenient to the downtown centro area. Getting back you can take a taxi to the top of the callejon and walk down, or if you are ready for some serious cardio exercise, you can walk back up the callejon. Walking to the Centro area is about 6 minutes as is walking down from the taxi dropoff. Torsten (host) is very responsive, and if you have any problems, he and/or the property manager will be right on top of them. Highly recommended.
Great Apartment, Close to Zona Central
This is a really nice apartment close to the beautiful part of Guanajuato. The caretaker, Gerardo is a very nice and helpful man. He helped me with my luggage both coming and going. Apartment was clean and well decorated. As other reviews have stated, it is a pretty strenuous walk up, but taxis will take you to the top and you can walk down. I had a great week in Guanajuato.
Great location, but you should believe the cautions!
I know that everyone mentions the climb to the apartment, and I will pile on. I don't think it is possible to overstate its difficulty. Not only is it steep, the footing is uneven and the steps aren't regular. That said, it is in an excellent location. The Teatro Principal is at the bottom of the hill, and we went to the symphony three times there for a cost of about $5. Lots of restaurants, and we especially liked the produce store on the plaza below.
The apartment has a spectacular view from the roof, and the owner has a hammock and lights up, so you can enjoy the view at night as well. There is also a washing machine on the roof, and the laundry dries very quickly in the great weather.
The apartment is pretty basic, but fine. The caretaker, Gerado, is very responsive and helpful. The owner contacted me after we arrived to see if everything was OK and if there was anything I needed. I asked for a small saucepan and some reusable storage containers (to put stuff like fresh pineapple in--it is in the produce store--fantastic and cheap). However, the kitchen is still pretty lacking. About ½ through the stay, the owner brought us some big bowls and some more plates, but until then we didn't have any serving bowls. We could have used some small plates, serving spoons, and more cook pans.
There are two bedrooms and we thought the beds were comfortable and had nice bedding. The shower worked well, but the hot water is limited. However, after talking with other visitors, I think we had more hot water than most.
The biggest complaint I have is that the internet is very iffy. There is no TV--you can watch YouTube or Netflix IF the internet is working.
We were there for a month, so I had time to take Spanish classes at the Escuela Falcon about halfway down the hill. I recommend the school, and the location is perfect if you stay in this apartment. The school has better internet service too.
A couple of tips--the floors are all made of tile and are cold, especially at night, so I wish I had brought some slippers. And for women, the only women I saw wearing shorts were tourists. Local women just don't wear them (especially my age--61). It's fine if you want to--but I wish I had known that when I packed 2 pairs of shorts and a skort. I wish I had brought more long pants.
All in all, we loved Guanajuato and already have plans to come back in December.
