De Stonehouse is een omgebouwde 2 slaapkamer vrijstaande boerderij gelegen in de heuvels met privé zwembad en beschutte terras op het zuiden met panoramisch uitzicht over de boomtoppen in de richting van Portimão, waar de zee kan worden gezien glinsterende aan de horizon, maar is slechts enkele minuten van het schilderachtige marktstadje Monchique met alle lokale amenites, restaurants, cafés en bars, met het extra voordeel van het zijn slechts 25 minuten rijden van de zuidkust stranden, en 35 minuten van de meer afgelegen en pittoreske stranden aan de westkust.
De Stonehouse biedt comfort, ruimte, karakter en zoveel afzondering zoals u wenst. Restaurants en traditionele bars zijn een paar minuten rijden of gebruik maken van de stenen barbecue op het terras of een volledig uitgeruste keuken.
Invoeren via de keuken naar de ruime woonkamer met eettafel, 4 stoelen, bank, 2 fauteuils, TV, CD-speler en houtkachel u kunt blijven genieten van het panoramische uitzicht.
Grenzend aan de volledig uitgeruste keuken die een volledige elektrische kookplaat, koelkast, magnetron, koffiezetapparaat heeft, Iron & bestuur is een extra slaapkamer die is geschikt voor 2 extra personen, hetzij als een tweepersoonsbed, Twin of single.
Beneden is de slaapkamer (5ft breed bed) en badkamer (bad met douche over bad) toilet en wastafel, ook de huisvesting van een wasmachine. Alle begane grond ramen zijn voorzien van horren.
Over het terras is een klein privé zwembad, ideaal om af te koelen op die glorieus warme zonnige dagen! of gewoon ontspannen en genieten van het uitzicht in de schaduw van de oude olijfboom,

Stone House Stay - Late July 2025

It was the idyllic Country House stay in the Portuguese hills with amazing views from the Lounge and Terrace that were magical. The House is very tradition giving you that feeling of an escape to another world and time. We enjoyed having a meal and wine on the terrace while looking at the amazing views and the flora that abounds. Access via the local roads is good and there is parking right next to the house and minimal local traffic passing making for a very quiet ambience. Everything you need is provided, plus amazingly well researched and presented information folders about the area, which make for great reading and tips. Monchique and nearby localities have much to offer, we stayed 4 nights and could have stayed another couple.

Peaceful place with spectacular views, away from the crowds

The house is spacious and nicely furnished with a wonderful outside patio and private pool. There are lots of interesting places to visit nearby and for those who like to walk a good choice of trails, both in the hills and on the nearby coast. Provisions for self catering can be found in Monchique or in some of the towns close by. Weather was very warm for our stay, and the greenery and shade around the house kept it comfortable, and cool enough for sleeping .

I left my heart in Monchique

The Stone House, lovingly owned by Mark and Sharon was a step back in time. The stone structure, while I suspect it was built many years ago still had all of the modern conveniences you would want.This well appointed home was set in the mountains and we were able to step out of modern chaos and truly relax. The gardens, the pool and the outdoor patio set the stage for a lovely glass of vhino verde and great conversation.Thank you Mark and Sharon for sharing your well-loved home with us! We will be back again if possible.

Quiétude

A lovely villa with a pool, situated in a tranquil location offering stunning panoramic views. While the house is charming, it could benefit from some furniture renovations, especially in the bedrooms, and the addition of air conditioning for the summer months.

We are in the process of updating our furniture bit by bit, living in the UK & withmany bookings it is a slow process, as we want to view furniture for suitability before buying. Pleasant

We had a pleasant stay. The location and the terrace area is very nice, but inside the house could perhaps use some updating. The lounge and main bedroom are spacious. The second bedroom got very hot [it was 38c each day], and the kitchen had minimal counter space and a small fridge. More toilet rolls, bin liners, etc were needed.

Thank you for your review Tom. The Stonehouse is a 70+ year old property. We feel it has a character of it's age. The photos on on page we hope give guests a true picture of it's layout. Fans are provided for use to circulate air & should provide some comfort at night, but the hotter the temperature, the hotter the air, which we have no control over. We are looking into refurbishing the kitchen, but it is a typical Portuguese small kitchen, which can be short on counter space. We do have a small table/veg rack on wheels that can be moved around to ease this situation. We have not received any comments about the size of the fridge before. As regard to the toilet rolls & bin bags it is stated in the T&C's that toilet roll is only provided for arrival, & bin bags will be replaced when the maid cleans. We will certainly take your comments on board & try to address as many as possible. Thank you once again, & nice to hear that you all had a pleasant stay. Kind regards Mark & Sharon

The Stonehouse occupies a stunning location with panaramic views across the hills and down to the coast. Access to Monchique and its supermarket and restaurants is a matter of minutes and to south or west coast is only 30 or 40 minutes.The value is good too, at a considerably lower price than most properties in the area, but there are some compromises to be made: During our stay the pool filter didnt appear to be working so we had to use the net a lot to skim the surface. The microwve is temperamental and turned when it felt like it, but mostly it was the bed. At home we have an extra firm mattress but the one at the Stonehouse is so unforgiving we struggled to sleep, and the bed is noisy, each time one of us rolled over it woke the other up.Overall its a nice place to stay but does need a little tlc.

Quiet and peaceful

The property was exactly as described so there were no unexpected surprises. The property was in quiet peaceful location on a hillside with great views over the countryside all the way to the coast. The kitchen was well appointed with plenty of utensils. The pool was not large but was ideal and very welcome to cool off in during the day. Even the the house seemed remote the village of Monichique was only 10 minutes drive where there is a supermarket which has everything you need for you stay.There are restaurants and here too. Communications withe Mark and Sharon were fast and responsive.

Lovely peaceful cottage

Not long back from a wonderful stay at The Stonehouse. The view was breath-taking over the mountains to the coast. We had lovely clear blue skies for the first part of the holiday, and it was warm throughout the entire week. The cottage is lovely with a large lounge and everything that was required for our stay there. Although we never switched the t.v. or c.d. player on, as it was just nice to sit outside on the lovely large terrace and admire the views and the sounds of the birds. We ate outside every night, buying provisions from the local supermarket about 5-10 minutes away in Monchique. There were ample towels and bed linen, and Paula the maid made sure everything was alright for us during our stay. I can understand why Mark and Sharon love it so much, we could hardly tear ourselves away but here are lots of places to visit during the stay and we visited Alvor, the West Coast beaches and Monchique. Mark and Sharon provided loads of information of places to visit and all about the surrounding areas. There were local restaurants, which you could walk to during the day, but it was a long walk uphill back, but easily driveable in 5-10 minutes. If you want to get away from it all and just relax would certainly recommend.

Loved it!

My husband and I spent 4 nights at the Stonehouse during our 2 week trip around the southern part of Portugal. The only complaint I have is that we didn't have enough time here. We did several day trips i.e. to Albuferia for a cruise, to Salema, etc. It was about 40 minutes to these sites. Then we got to return the Stonehouse to relax for the evening to relax. The nearby town of Monchique had a grocery store so we stocked up on what we needed there. We had an evening meal in the town a couple of nights. Meals were delicious and reasonably priced. Sadly, I don't have the names of the places we choose. My bad....The house had everything we needed to prepare meals if we chose to. So much information in the binders at the house about local attractions, maps, restaurants. Those were an excellent resource. The house is in a very quiet location. I honestly wasn't sure our GPS knew what it was doing when we were first heading there. But we were rewarded at the end of the drive. I would recommend this location for a couple looking for a quiet relaxing visit to the area. The outdoor seating area and pool were just so perfect with the lovely view of the valley below. I can't say enough positive things. I would love to go back someday. We shall see. Thank you to Mark & Sharon for offering this place to travelers to this area. We certainly enjoyed our time at the Stonehouse.

Top locatie

Dit huis en de locatie krijgt van ons 5 sterren. Het huis is comfortabel, sfeervol en je merkt aan de inrichting dat er veel aandacht en zorg van de bewoners is voor het huis. Het huis ligt in een zeer rustige omgeving en heeft uitzicht op Portimao en de zee. De bewoners hebben zeer veel informatie verzameld over allerlei bezienswaardigheden, uitstapjes, restaurants en autotochtjes. De woning wordt goed onderhouden en was zeer schoon.

Compleet appartement met uitzicht

Het huis en de patio zijn heerlijk. De olijfboom op de patio zorgt ervoor dat er ieder moment van de dag schaduw is. Het huis is fijn ingericht en van alle gemakken voorzien. Het was heerlijk om te koken, eten, drinken, lezen en een spelletje doen. Ana Paula is een lieverd en op uitnodiging een gezellige gesprekspartner. De mensen in de restaurants in Monchique en vlakbij het huis waren erg gastvrij voor ons en onze kleine dochter. Het huis ligt afgelegen maar het uitzicht over het groen naar Portimao en de oceaan gaven ons het gevoel onderdeel te zijn van het leven in de stad en de dorpen. Wij zijn naar meerdere stranden geweest, allemaal op ongeveer 30-40 minuten afstand van het huis. De verschillen tussen de stranden zijn groot qua voorzieningen en toegankelijkheid; wij genoten van die verschillen. Het zwembad wordt niet verwarmd. In de eerste dagen was dat wennen en vervolgens heerlijk koel. Het bankje boven in de tuin is een plek om te genieten. Te genieten van de tuin, het uitzicht, de geluiden, elkaar of een goed boek. We enjoyed it a lot

Lovely house

Wonderful house, with a nice garden and small pool. We had trouble to find the house though. It was night and our navigation system sent us to Alferce, where in fact is a street called Rua Palmeira. We thought that should be it, but no.... it was a very small dark street with no Stone House. Then we went to Monchique and went into every little street with mailboxes at the bottom, as it was in the route description, but no luck. Then our rescuers appeared: two friendly local policemen who escorted us to the house. But we had a lovely time in this lovely house and we slept very well with the silence surrounding us.

Ich war mit meiner Mutter für 14 Tage an diesem schönen Ort. Ein gemütliches, einfaches Steinhaus mit einer Terrasse und einem wunderbaren Pool. Der einzigartige Blick und die Ruhe ist besonders hervorzuheben. Hier kann man wirklich abschalten. Das Haus hat alles was man braucht und in der Umgebung findet man viele Restaurants und Einkaufsmöglichkeiten. Ideal für auch für Wanderer. Die Kommunikation mit den netten Vermietern war zu jederzeit perfekt und wirklich schnell. Ich würde es wieder buchen.

Points positifs : -Tres joli emplacement avec une superbe vue sur la montagne et mer. -Endroit calme. -Maison avec du caractere. -Documentations sur la region particulierement fournies. Points negatifs : -Check in sans presence physique (merci beaucoup à la dame qui nous a guide) pour 2 semaines de sejour. La 1ere fois que cela survient avec Abritel. -La chambre du 1er etage n'est pas equipee des rideaux necessaires pour une chambre à coucher. -La terrasse est en mauvais etat : transats en mauvais etat,eclairage manquant pour diner dehors. -La piscine ne permet pas de nager; c'est un bassin.

Having never visited Portugal before we stayed at the Stonehouse to celebrate our 25th Wedding Anniversary and fell in love with the house, location, and area. As fate had it, it turned out that the property was for sale, so on a whim we decided it was to good a chance too miss and bought it!
The Stonehouse offers seclusion and privacy yet is within close proximity to the quaint market town of Monchique that has all the amenities one requires when on holiday - cafes, restaurants, fruit/veg market, bank, chemist, butchers, souvenir shops and supermarket.
The view over the 'valley' towards Portimão and the south coast, just made us want to own this best of both worlds, seclusion but without being isolated. It is an ideal base to explore both the southern & western area of the Algarve.
