- A few tips to help you (and us!) during your stay, in no particular order: 1.) We provide towels, sheets and bathroom toiletries. The kitchen is well-stocked with dishes, utensils, cookware, napkins, paper towels, toaster, microwave, full-sized fridge, range, dishwasher, popcorn machine and a full coffee setup. Basically all the stuff that we stole from our own house is now in yours. You can stock the fridge and make your own meals if you like. 2.) No smoking anywhere on the property!!! Many of our guests specifically request a no smoking facility. We ask that each guest follow this rule in consideration of the next. 3.) For heat, the thermostat is located to the left as you descend the stone steps into the great room. For AC, there's an air conditioner in the great room and a remote control (white, Sanyo brand) that controls it. The loft has its own air conditioner as well. 4.) The hot water is HOT. Be careful! We recommend turning on the cold water first and adding hot until it reaches the desired temperature. 5.) The house is on a septic system so be mindful of what gets flushed and/or sent down the drains. We ask guests to use the trash cans whenever possible. 6.) Parking is plentiful and directly in front of the cottage. Best simply to pull straight ahead so as to avoid shining headlights into the adjoining yard. 7.) The property is located in a quiet residential neighborhood loaded with sleep-deprived and socially lame parents. We ask that guests maintain quiet hours beginning at 9pm. Our neighbors have been tolerant and we like them that way! 8.) The overhead light/fan in the great room is controllable via the small white remote control found on the coffee table. If you'd like the fan but not the light or vice versa you will need long arms or an impressive vertical leap. 9.) The tv can be powered on and off via the power knob on the left side of the tv, just like in the old days. There's a dedicated remote that controls the FIOS box. It will also (occasionally) turn the tv on and off via its TV power button. Feel free to watch the goofy shows we DVR but don't delete them! 10.) There's a fire extinguisher in the closet to the right of the blacksmith forge in the kitchen. We ask guests not to burn down the cottage whenever possible. 11.) Guests are asked to wash their own dishes and remove whatever food they have in the fridge and freezer. We used to think we'd get some free food out of this deal but it never seems to work out that way. Nothing good anyway. I found a pretty decent cookie once. 12.) Many of our guests are kind enough to make the beds, an effort we very much appreciate. Unfortunately, we merely strip apart their handiwork in order to change the sheets. If you want to be our new all-time favorite guests, stripping the bed and setting the sheets and used towels by the front door could possibly get you there. Taking out the trash also earns massive points. ;-) We do not charge a cleaning fee because we expect most guests would rather do those simple things than get hit with a fee. 13. For those guests staying longer than a night, watering the plants is much appreciated. So many plants have needlessly died for want of a drink. 14. Firewood stacked on the porch is free to guests for use in the wood stove in the great room. The blacksmith forge is not a functioning fireplace. 15. We are generally available and endeavor to help our guests with whatever they need at most any hour. We've delivered bottle openers and half-and-half and, uh, toilet paper at all sorts of odd hours. If you have a need send us a message through the Airbnb app or text us directly. It works better than walking over to the main house, mainly because we don't want our guests to see us watching The Bachelor. It's downright embarrassing. 16. For guests who need it we are happy to do laundry, free of cost and judgement. Just let us know and we'll take care of it for you. 17. Jen makes the muffins fresh for every guest, unless I find them first. 18. The internet name is BQBBY, the password bug3735gun8680aunt. 19. Give us a chance to fix it! While most of our reviews have been great we have had the occasional guest complain without giving us an opportunity to make it right. It's a shame, not merely because it hurts the rating we obsess over but because those guests might have had a better experience but for the issue they've written about. Tell us what isn't working for you and we'll do our very best to fix it. Last but not least we'd like to welcome you to our house and express our gratitude for your business. If there's anything you need or would like more details about the history of the property or recommended sights please don't hesitate to ask. We want you to be comfortable and happy! All the best, Dave and Jen
