You still had to drive (since we had kids) but close to town, overall a good place
Thank you for the comments.
It’s understandable if there are small children in the party that they may not want to walk even though it is just 2 blocks.
Another option in this case is the shuttle which stops at Snowflake lift right next to the condo. I’m glad you had a fun trip!
Property was good, living room area is small for a house that sleeps 10... no way for all of us to be in the living room at one time! Only have a TV in the living room and queen bedroom downstairs, so not being able to all be in the living room made this tough when relaxing after a long day skiing. Enjoyed the property but for skiiers there are a lot of stairs bc this property is a 2nd story unit. Walk to lift isn’t too bad and you can ski to the back of the property but you have to walk around to the front of the property and climb about 25 stairs. We started leaving all our gear at the bottom of the stairs and had no problem doing that with any of the neighbors. Walk to town was easy (but coming home is uphill, that was tougher lol) Most houses we do through VRBO usually has a cabinet with small things in the kitchen (ie salt, pepper, sugar, coffee, etc) none of that was there so had to make a trip to the store since we had groceries delivered prior to arriving (we left stuff but wanted to note this for anyone coming in behind us) Space out your showers, with 8 people and 7 coming off the slopes at about the same we struggled with hot water (want others to plan better bc we had a lot of cold showers the first day). This is not a true 4 bedroom house, it is 3 bedrooms and a loft area which is open to the downstairs living room and the review about that area being terribly hot is very true.... we would make sure the fireplace was turned off by 8 or so so that area wasn’t so miserable but we still opened windows for the upstairs at night to cool it. All in all we enjoyed the property and Jill communicated with us throughout our stay.
This property is not for old people. With the altitude it was very hard to get up 2 flights of stairs with ski gear/luggage/food. In the apartment there’s also stairs to the master bedroom which was difficult.
The location is very convenient. It’s a 3 min walk uphill to snowflake lift. (Take the street) and ski I’m down the four o clock.
With the base elevation of Breckenridge at 9800 feet, it is one of the higher mountains in the country to ski. Adjusting to the altitude can take several days depending on various factors such as the altitude to which your body is accustomed and overall physical fitness. Everybody has to stop and catch their breath the first few days of walking/skiing in Breckenridge. I'm sorry you found the stairs to be an obstacle. (The stairs are actually one flight with a landing and another 5 steps up to the entry.). In the property description and pictures, it shows the stairs to the front door and the interior stairs. Most units in the mountain will have some stairs. It sounds like in the future it would be best for you to find one that doesn't. There are also grocery and ski delivery services available in Breckenridge which are a great option for getting settled in.
I hope you had great skiing on the mountain and a fun trip!
Peak 8 Stay
This condo was located close to town and not too far from the Snowflake ski lift with no line. We had to walk up the hill about 200 steps or so to get to the lift. Easy to ski back in on 4 0'clock after a long day of skiing. Only issues we had were there we a lot of steps/stairs to go up and down each day which made it difficult with ski boots on while carrying skies and for the older folks in our group. Also, since the kitchen/dining/family room were all on the main floor the upstairs bedroom and bed/loft area got super hot anytime we turned on the fire. So everyone upstairs had a hard time sleeping each night due to the temp...even after turning the fireplace off for the night and opening the windows. The main floor would get cold with all the windows, slider and front entry door so the fire was a necessity. The 3 bedrooms were all large enough and there were 2 full baths and one half bath on the main floor. There was also a stackable washer/dryer unit on the bottom floor within the condo. The stove is electric which isn't ideal for folks who are used to cooking on a gas stove but we managed. Overall the condo was good but we would prefer a place with less stairs, more up to date kitchen amenities, and a different layout so the main floor isn't cold (unless the fireplace is on) and the bedrooms hot.
Thank you for the comments. Unfortunately you may have not read the full property description. There is one flight of stairs and it is shown on the website and it is also in the property description information. Walking in ski boots and carrying skis is a skill/ adjustment, especially for beginners. When we have guests who are not good at traversing with boots on, we carry their skis down the steps before we go out. I apologize that it was difficult for some in your party. There are baseboard heaters in each room for individual room adjustment. If you run the fireplace continuously it will get warmer upstairs because heat rises. In this case it is a good idea to leave the upstairs heaters off. Also, with weather extremes in Colorado it is important to address the thermostats from day to day.
I hope you had fun skiing!
