Best most relaxing vacation!!!
My husband and I spent 3 days at this cabin and our only complaint was it wasn’t long enough!! We spent the majority of time outside looking at the beautiful Shanendoah River! Campfire every night and especially enjoyed the hot tub in the screened in porch. The only thing missing was something fun to play outside besides horseshoes... lol
First of all, I was extremely grateful to the owner, Bill, who shipped back some items to me that I had left behind. This was the icing on the cake of a wonderful experience overall.
This little gem of a property had everything I was looking for to relax, recharge and enjoy nature. A quick, scenic drive from DC, I easily found this cozy little cabin after a winding drive down and back up the river from nearby Luray. The location right at the bend in the river was beautiful, and I spent many an hour in the hammock, in the hot tub, or in bed just watching the river roll by. Tubes and canoe were conveniently located under the house in the back, and in great condition. They had two grills - one gas on the porch and one charcoal (brand new) out in the ample-sized yard. I didn't use the guest room, but the master bedroom had huge windows with views facing the river (east?) and north, with a sliding door with access to a lovely screened in porch. Kitchen was well-appointed, and the bathroom was more than adequate, if not a little rustic.
If I had to pick a couple of minor issues - first, the water in the bathroom had a very pungent and distinctive metallic (iron) smell to it that was a bit surprising if you weren't ready for it. Not a big deal to me but may bother some. Also, it's important to note that having access to a canoe and tubes sounds great, but keep in mind that you're on a river that flows, so you'll need to either to a lot of paddling against the current, anchor yourself, or float far from the house before you know it. There's obviously nothing the owners can do about this, but it's a consideration before booking any getaway on a river. Finally, when I booked this place I was looking for somewhere secluded and very private, with no neighbors in sight. Based on the pictures provided, I thought this might be the case, but it wasn't. The property is nestled between two other small cabins, fortunately with a fence, but hardly private. I felt a bit misled by the pictures, but it didn't impact my experience too adversely. Just wanted to let others know, in case they're looking for extreme privacy.
Overall, I would definitely go back and recommend this place to others. The price is right, the owners were awesome, and it's just a stone's throw from DC. Thanks, Bill and Peggy!
Can't wait to go back
Wonderful cabin with everything you could need. An off season trip was perfect as the area was deserted but with the hot tub and fire pit it's easy to enjoy being outside by the river even in the chilly weather. Water was pleasant for a quick and easy canoe trip. There is both a gas and a charcoal grill. Owner was very friendly and easy to reach. Planning to return in the future <3
Dreamy! The best getaway! Cozy! 1 1/2 hours from DC
This is our 3rd time staying here. It’s lovely. It’s small but so cozy. You can lie on the master bed and see the entire river which is quite wide on this property. Great outdoor fire pit. The hammock appears new but only holds 1 person. The canoe was great. Clean outdoor hot tub on screened deck is a wonderful way to wrap up a day of fly fishing. Big indoor fireplace in cozy living room which has new sofas. Nice big private driveway. We requested an extra special cleaning due to coronavirus and owner was very receptive. Cabin was clean! One thing to keep in mind: rate at this time is X/night but when you book you’ll see there are additional processing fees. Oh, gloriously no cell service! Wi-fi was a little spotty but we were there to escape so it worked out great!
