Beautiful, spacious place to relax and unwind
We were a party of 6 including young children, parents and grandparents and we all loved this house, the surrounding plantation and, especially, the pool. The house is spacious and clean, which is admirable, considering it is on a farm and the roads and fields outside are dry and dusty at this time of year. We did quite a bit of cooking in the kitchen which had everything we needed; it has a rustic charm which is typical of the countryside, rather than polished and clinical. There’s no microwave or dishwasher but the caretakers who look after the property did some cleaning and washing dishes while we were there. There’s no TV, which we didn’t need, but there’s a great sound system and a good choice of music CDs. All linen and towels were provided, and there are at least 4 supermarkets in the town about 3km away where we could get everything we needed.
It was a hot week, so we spent a lot of time in the pool which is kept fresh and clean. Because of its thick walls and shutters, and the shade provided by trees all around, inside the house stayed remarkably cool, even when the temperature outside was nearing 40 deg C.
A few weeks before we arrived, and after we had paid for our stay, we read an unfavourable review posted by a recent guest. If we had not already booked, that review might have influenced our decision, which would have been unfair. It complained about directions to the property, which is actually 2km from a sizeable town and pretty close to a main road, and the fact that the road leading to the farmhouse is unmade, which is true, so it means you have to drive carefully (welcome to Spain.) The other complaints seemed trivial and did not reflect our experience.
Is there anything else we would have liked? Perhaps a second double bed, but we had such an enjoyable stay that did not seem like a problem.
This friendly review shows that the visitors liked the offer:
Absolutely privacy in a big house with a huge swimming pool,
surrounded by our olive grove; equipped with little modern technology . . . but with daily care. We only wanted such guests who are looking for something different during holidays than their normal City life
Property was extremely difficult to access-directions were poor. After being lost for one hour because directions were poor, the road leading up to house almost ruined the bottom of our car. The house was minimal at most;uncomfortable furniture, refrigerator unplugged, bathrooms lacking toilet paper,no soap and having not enough towels for us. It was obvious the owner was not accustomed to having guests. I could write much more but it’s enough to say I would not recommend this place to stay unless many changes made. Also cooking gas not connected and the house was not clean. The stone stairs had no railing to hold on to and it was a safety issue at all times.
Definitely not comfortable.
Answer to the allegations:
Befor the arrival on our manor the visitors stayed overnight on their road trip through Spain in holiday apartments or hotels.
Obviously they also expected our offer with luxury hotel amenities and immediately got into angry discussions with our employees because of excessive claims:
They demanded the villa was to be cleaned daily with a vacuum cleaner – that’s 240 sq. meters of Cotto floors - daily! Cotto floors are wiped damp upon need.
Should be changed t w i c e a day – that would be for 4 guests in 4 days : 32 towels, + Pool towels + shower towels. At this point also should be considered the price/day/person of 41 Euros
Toilet paper, Soap:
Our Antonio showed the place of the spare rolls. Soap is usually taken care of by our guests themselves – but also enough soap in the bathroom cabinet on request.
Mari-Carmen had accidentally not plugged in before the arrival of our guests. Unfortunately, the guests did not ask how the propane gas works for the stove.
It was not said what could have been missing.
Our guest had a prepared map on hand for the continuous 8,3 km of the highway – beginning on the motorway exit and led without deviations to the 600 meters of track across the fields; not asphalted and with holes and bumps like other dirt roads with hard though uneven ground.
The complaint may also be based on the intervention of our Antonio as a guest began to destroy a swallow’s nest in an outhouse – maybe not friendly enough.
We have been renting for over 20 years – always with the same staff to guests who appreciate the tranquillity and beauty of the complex, surrounded with 80.000 sq. m. of olives and orange grove and with the huge swimming pool of 100 sq.m.
But we are not a hotel !
A beautiful holiday villa
We spent a beautiful week in this villa. We are a family with 4 children and had a fantastic time in the pool, which was kept in excellent condition by the caretaker.
The description of the villa does not do it justice, it was extremely spacious, the showers/bathrooms were exceptional with plenty of hot water and the day bed a massive hit with the children. Possibly the biggest bonus is the housekeeper who comes every day to clean and do beds. Also the fresh orange juice is out of this world.
Be warned there is little to do, no TV, no internet for us this was a bonus as that meant a lot of family time.
The airport is just down the road, the local towns have everything you need, Seville is 20mins drive and best of all proper sunshine.
All in all a perfect get away, will certainly be returning sometime soon.
Thank you, Sally, for the very kind evaluation.
Our aim was always to keep the Huerta Timoteo generous but simple and authentic.
For example, good shutters and thick walls instead of air conditioning.
By the way - one might get TV: our caretaker will be happy to lend his second TV unit.
And SAT is installed.
But we quickly found out, no TV in summer vacation makes much better mood.
Exactly what you told us now.
Rustic hideaway perfect for relaxing break
We were coming to Spain for the wedding of a friend and wanted to take a few extra days to get some sunshine and catch up on some R and R. This place was ideal, not too far from the airport and nestled amoungst orange and olive trees with a lovely cooling swimming pool. The house keeper was there to greet us on arrival and everything was as described on these pages. We were quickly made to feel welcome despite our appalling Spanish we were able to communicate what we needed etc. She came every day to clean the house which made us feel very lazy but spoilt, she even did some washing for us which was above and beyond the call of duty. Someone also put out fresh oranges for us most mornings which really was a joy. Fresh orange juice everyday... delicious.
The house was as described (fairly comprehensive description from the owner), with plenty of room for 6 of us. Everything was tidy and clean. Towels and bed linen were all supplied. Plenty of hot water for showers etc, beds were possibly a little hard but we weren't too worried as much of the day was spent sleeping by the pool! The top floor was a little warm at night - to be fair it was 40 degrees outside but fans were supplied which made quite a difference. My only real negative (if you can call it that) is that a couple of the sun loungers were a little past their prime. Not a problem if there are only four of you but a couple of us ended up lying on the floor by the pool but I can't really say it was a hardship!
We were given very good notes on what to see and do around the villa, I would recommend a trip to Carmona and Seville. The local town is difficult to negotiate and we ended up not eating there. This may just have been bad planning our part. Seville is amazing and Carmona is a must see. We ended up eating out in Carmona for most nights as the restaurants are lovely and sitting out on the balcony at the Parador is breathtaking. I was impressed by how much the owner had thought about what the guests might like and any questions we might have had were answered in the extensive notes. Brilliantly organised.
I would definitely recommend this property to other people, we had such a lovely time. It really was such a treat to lie by the pool - it was clear that a lot of effort went into keeping the place clean and tidy. Everyone was very friendly and the house was clean and well stocked. A good find, we would definitely stay again.
