We had a lovely holiday gathering at Finn House. It was cozy, rustic and quaint. Plenty of cookware, blankets, books and puzzles. We enjoyed front row seats of Superior during a winter storm. Breathtaking!! Thank you for offering this lovely getaway.
First the pros: A nice older cabin. The view up the shore may be the best one on the North Shore. The layout would be perfect for two families---the two main bedrooms are in separate wings allowing privacy for both. Plenty of firewood so we had a fire almost every night. There is no deck, but there is a small porch and a nice grassy lawn between the cabin and the lake. There master bedroom is large enough that the addition of a king sized bed would make this a perfect cabin.
The cons: It's an old cabin so expect some issues. E.g., the range hood needs new knobs and a good cleaning and the master bath was a little moldy. The shore is a little difficult for an older person to reach and the grassy lawn ends at a fairly high retaining wall that has no railing, so would not be appropriate for younger kids. In the grand scheme of things on the North Shore, the cons were minor.
We had a fee dispute with management, but they gave us a more generous agreement than we had requested. Very impressive.
We really love this cabin - cozy, nicely furnished, with exceptional kitchen utensils. The one flaw we encountered was the brick raised area in the kitchen, which has caused two members of our party to trip and fall headlong in the last two years. We placed a small table on it to bring it to eye level, which worked well in preventing further painful accidents.
We are sorry you had issues with the brick area in the kitchen! It's not been a common occurrence and the brick is part of the structure to the cabin. I'm glad you devised your way to keep it from happening while you were there, and, again, we are sorry that you experienced that! Thank you for staying.
The Finn House
Great, cozy cabin with wonderful views of lakeshore and Lake Superior. Appreciated having firewood available for the fireplace.
It's always so nice to have guests enjoy the fireplace and Lake Superior at the same time. It makes for a perfect experience. Thank you for staying and we're so happy you had a nice trip.
Bliss on Superior
We were looking for a spot on the North Shore to hang out with our daughter and two grandchildren as the summer wound down and school started up again. We found it!! This old (built in 1943) rustic log cabin is set right on the shoreline of this secluded cove which provided both privacy and awesome beauty. The cabin was surprisingly roomy and certainly well equipped for our 4 night 5 day stay. Easy access and close to Grand Marais and Cascade River State Park, although hanging out on “our” rocky shore was an adventure in itself, including a family of loons!
